I want to use a Mac Mini as a file server for 3 other Macs that generate a lot of data that needs to be archived, which is a little different from what TimeCapsule provides.
The idea is to have the users store files on a huge drive, and have the Mini mirror the contents to a secondary HDD.
Is Mac OS X's software RAID in Mirrored mode a good fit, or will I find myself in some data-sync hell in the not too distant future ?

Thanks !

If you need high availability then RAID mirror is the way to go. High availability means that if a disk fails, your user can keep on working without interruption.

If not I prefer backup schemes like Time Machine because they allow you to recover from situations like accidental deletion and file corruption. Users will be interrupted if the primary drive fails (backup drive failures don't result in any user interruption) until you can replace it and restore from the backup.
