I pulled some parts out of an old drive tower of mine, so I can convert the whole thing to USB.
1) ($50) FireWire 400 to SATA Bridge Board, with power cable. This board also has USB2. It's a standard form factor bridge board, so you can augment older cases with it, or with a little bit of cutting, mount it in any case. Two SATA ports.
2) ($30) FireWire 400 to IDE Bridge Board with power cable. Also a standard sized bridge board. One IDE connector supports Master + Slave or just Master.
3/4) ($5) SATA to eSata PCI Slot cables. These fit standard PCI slot openings. You plug the cable into a SATA drive. The external port is eSata.

I'm guessing that $50 bridge board isn't ringing too many bells.

None yet. Too bad too, it's a great deal, retail price on one of these is $70, if you can even find them in stock.

I don't have a need for these, but I would like to acknowledge the high quality of the pictures.

Ditto. I've browsed craigslist before. $1000+ computers for sale, with a fuzzy cellphone pic to asses the merchandise. They don't get any bids from me.
A couple years ago, I'd have snapped up that FW - SATA board. Ended up buying eSATA enclosures and a card, because the FW solutions were too pricey.

Yeah, the tower these boards came out of are going USB. eSATA is nice and cheap, but it's so hard to get it on a Mac. No Macs have any expansion slots any more, and the only Thunderbolt eSata solution I've seen is a $180 box from Lacie. It's too bad.
