The folks at VideoLan released VLC 0.86 today.
Notable improvements:

* Support for VP5/VP6 and Flash video
* Much improved H.264 support
* Preliminary DVR-ms, MXF support
* Shoutcast TV support
* Apple Remote support
* Apple Fullscreen controller
* Universal Binary
Download: Universal Binary
Or for the "purists": PowerPC Intel

Crashes consistently on H.264 files for me. Just tried to play a couple of iPod ads from the Apple site and no luck. Also displayed an MP4 file very strangely. The only way to describe it is that everything was "diagonal" across the screen instead of "vertical". Think I'll stick with QT w/ DIVX and Flip4Mac plugins for now.

Is there a way to turn off all error messages and logs from appearing?
I have been using VLC for a long time and still don't know how if it is in fact possible.

VLC is an awesome package...but the interface and bugs are just ****in' unbearable. I suppose this is somewhat like Firefox on Mac.

You can Go to preferences>interface>main interface>macosx and then untick embedded video ouput. Save and you may need to restart vlc as well. Hope that helps

What about turning off the main controller window and only having the bar on the bottom of the window? Is that possible?

Oh thank you so much. I have been through those options so many times, but I think it could have been a bit more intuitive if you know what I mean.
thanks again.
