Not sure I understand the title of this topic. What does seeing or filming a tornado have to do with rednecks?

I love this thread.

PS: He's not a 'Redneck'. He warned other people and he never swore.

I've never seen a tornado, however I have seen water spouts. I've also seen rednecks.

So, what am I missing.

The OP has titled this thread redneck, and he included a video of a tornado.

"Uh, maybe I should leave or somethin."

He says this while the is a GD tornado a few hundered meters from him.

Redneck.

PS: Carlos Mencia does a very funny thing on tornados and rednecks - which I have listened to about 30 times, so I guess it is sort of ingrained in my head.

How the fcuk would someone from South Africa know what a redneck is?

(I spent 1990/1991 in Avon Park, Florida - I can spot a Redneck at 200m)

redneck |ˈredˌnek|

noun informal derogatory
a working-class white person, esp. a politically reactionary one from a rural area : rednecks in the high, cheap seats stomped their feet and hooted | [as adj. ] a place of redneck biases.

Did he have a 'thuddy-thuddy' hanging on the back window? Or a cap advertising some sort of fishing bait? Does he chew?

I wouldn't call Pensacola or the Air Station particularly rural either.

Now? Yeah, it's a racial slur. Does it apply to anyone other than white folks? Nope.

It's like saying "honkey" (probably a bit before folks' times here). The only real difference is that "redneck" is supposed to be OK to say, whereas the N word wouldn't be.

I guess if it applies to white folks or poor folks it can't be racist.

Not at all like "******". Whereas the word "******" applies to race, "redneck" applies to a smaller subset of people. We have a similar term down here: "bogan". The UK has "chavs". A more appropriate comparison would indeed be "honky" or even "cracker".

I've been called cracker, honky, whitey, country boy, and pale boy...and every time it was meant to sound offensive. I never actually got offended though.

I think it's pretty hard to be called n***** without being offended.

*steps in*

yo, sup vanilla faces?

On a seriouser note, I've never subscribed to the idea that redneck is a racist term. I won't debate it here though, as I've been there and done that already.

It's because of the power we've bestowed on the word n*****. There is no equal derogatory word for "white people" simply because there hasn't been enough power bestowed on any such term to be offensive (individuals levels of taking offence notwithstanding).

It should be fairly easy to deduct why this may be.

From my experience, there are some Rednecks who are actually proud to be called Rednecks. I would never have classified it as racial though.
