hi there,

so just had to do a clean install on an older macbook pro for a friend and now start-up hangs with a distorted (fat) apple logo until the screen goes black.

ran applejack who said:

"SUID file System/Library/CoreServices/Remote management/ARD agent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARD Agent has been modified and will not be repaired"

we think we got that right. it went fast.

any help or ideas appreciated

thanks, posthumanus

If you hold Alt at the boot chime, does the boot manager come up (distorted or not)? Can you boot from the DVD? Was it the right DVD for that machine? I think this last is the key, particularly since you point out that the display is not normal.

yes, we booted from the snow leopard (bought) DVD a few days ago (when i had it with me)

we just let it cool a bit and it booted fine.

tried the ALT thing and it re-booted fine

could this be a heat issue? it does run a lot hotter than my laptop.

What MBP is it?
If it has an nVidia 8600m then take it in for repair.
