I have been finding more of these online. Take this one for example:

It can be found here. How am I suppose to determine which shade of purple is which? Can't they make it orange, red, green, blue, or something else more distinguishable?

Darker means more, lighter means less. It's 4 shades.

I understand but distinguishing between all 4 shades of essentially the same color is troublesome.

I'm likely overreaching here, but perhaps you have more trouble distinguishing shades than the average person? I'm the opposite, I have fairly acute vision when it comes to discerning tints and shades.

Certainly, they could have made the darkest, darker. And I don't think magenta lends itself well to the variation. Plus, magenta?!

Perhaps, but I think I should be among the average. I agree that they should have done something to be distinguishable.

This feels easier to read to me. All I did was change the color.

The shades are really easy for me to see. Perhaps the confusing part is there is only 1 state shaded white/pink (Delaware). It took me a minute to discover it and see why they included the lightest shade.

I have no difficulty with that color. Do you have a slight color weakness, perhaps?

I agree that the magenta is not the best choice.

I have no issues also, but it seems it could have been made easier. It is not the easiest color to distinguish. The blue shades are better.

If not for Delaware and South Dakota they'd only need two shades on the whole map.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

To be fair, people in South Dakota are saving up money to move away from South Dakota.

At least they didn't use ultraviolet or infrared colors.
