Did someone find a workaround for the bug in where the pics of people loaded in Address Book are not shown in Mail.app?

Wow, I didn't even know that was supposed to happen.

It only works if they specify a pic in their .Mac preferences.

Yes,
Mail looks for the photos in the directory: ~/Library/Images/People/
You have to create this folder then download AddressImageExtractor from here http://versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=16084&db=mac
It will display all the photos in your Address Book and give you the option to save then in ~/Library/Images/People/.
(Or you can manualy copy the photos into ~/Library/Images/People/ - they should be in .tiff format and have the person's email address as the filename.

Why doesn't this work automatically any more? It used to in 10.1

Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

Here's a picture of a photo of the sender of an email appearing in Mail.

It worked for me until Jag (actually, I dont remember if until 10.1).
It is a pity. I have a lot of buddies with images
I believe duplicating the files is a bit like "lo atamos con alambre".
I actually dont beleve this bug hasnt been addressed yet.

according to the help file, this should still work (though admittedly it doesn't) - it also purports not to need the file to be in .tiff format...

By the way.... is there a way to crop pictures while adding them to AddressBook (like in iChat)?

The easy way to get this working in Jag:
Go grab SenderPix
If you do it manually, I believe you can use other image formats, as long as they are named "filename.tiff"
(SenderPix does this for you)
