i bought a canon lide 80 today , total crap

the drivers only work in os-x classic mode

not os-x native mode

i'm not going into os-9's dreadful look just to scan a poxy pic

any small , lightweight but good scanners that have NATIVE os-x software / drivers ?

this is really disgraceful imo , canon have had ages to get their act together ( X's been out c. 3 years !! ) , they should be ashamed of themselves

i've decided , i'm gonna get a refund and put up with my epson 1200 from 3 years ago

it's slow , it's clunky and it's os-x support is mediocre

but then again , 3 years later , seems so's the so-called competition

talk about disilluisoned

I think Epson only has florescent scanners and not LED ones like canon so i would say no.

I have the Canon LiDE 80 and think it's great. The latest drivers from the Canon website work with OS X natively - I use it with Photoshop CS on 10.3.

Sounds like you've got an old installation CD or installed the wrong drivers. Try downloading again. Here's a link

Do the buttons on the front of the scanner work?

No, you should be ashamed of yourself for jumping to conclusions! Canon's had mature Mac OS X native drivers for all the Lide scanners for at least a year and a half now. I know this because one of my clients has been using them for that long.

So why the heck don't they include them in the box?

Do the front buttons work with the OSX drivers?

They probably do include them in the box.

Yes, the buttons work, but only to launch the CanoScan Toolbox, not to launch the Photoshop plugin.

the link above just brings up a blank page

i'm buying a hewlett packard 4670vp anyways

canon don't supply the correct drivers in the box and don't even have full support on their website

if tooki can show me a link to the de facto software i'd be more than happy to d/l it

it get's worse

i hopped over to cnet to look at their readers reviews of the hp and canon scanners

they all suck apparently , the software on xp being just as bad as os-x

seems basically , you either buy an expensive scanner like an agfa ( the only one with exc software ) or put up with what you've got

scanners are one thing that do not seem to have evolved , personally i think its because were all moving to a totally digital world , one where the digital camera will provide the visual input and the scanner is a purely analogue tool

i find i can do a pretty good copy of a document with my digital camera anyway and its a doddle to input the data on my imac compared to all that farting about with a scanner

scanners are old hat in other words , along with the fax machine they're being consigned to the techno wasteland

OS X driver download

OS X 10.1.x-10.3.x

The Canon scanners are just fine; either the original poster missed the OS X drivers on the disk, or Canon accidentally dropped the wrong disk in the box or omitted the OS X driver disk.

We've also had a batch of LaCie DVD burners go out without the Mac driver disk in the box. Doesn't change the fact that it's an excellent product that works well with OS X.

These things happen.

Sounds good. I have pretty many Canon products (printer, scanner, one of my 2 digicams). They make pretty good products. I don't use my scanner a whole lot, but it's very portable and never has let me down.

it all looked so xp-ish it was depressing to be honest

scanner makers sure seem to have dropped the ball recently

I'm using a Canoscan LIDE 30 with PSCS also. However, everything I scan has a red tint to it. Even the white scanner lid is reddish pink. I've played around with all kinds of color settings. Am I missing something here?

Well, other than actual hardware failure, I can think of just two possible sources of the problem:

1. (which I can't verify, since I don't have a Canon scanner here to play with) Perhaps the adjustment curves have been set weird and need to be reset to normal.

2. The scanner lid must be laying flat and closed when the scan is first started, so that it can calibrate against its white target. If the lid is open, or the target area is covered, it may not be able to properly white-balance.
