In hindsight, these are obviously "Made for Easter" iMacs. Don't they look like eggs that the Easter Bunny brings?
Hopefully this means new colors again in May.

i can see why they did it-to try and do something different. with all the imac looking products they probably want to stay one step ahead. and while the dalmation blue one isnt that bad, theyre both pretty ugly.

I have to say, the Flower Power iMac leaves me speechless... and not the "drooling, gotta have it" kind... more like dumbfounded and aghast. I think the only place for this thing is on Mimi's desk on the Drew Carrey show.

THE new iMACs are awesome -- Apple is the only company in the WORLD that can make a "Blue Dalmation" computer.
Apple Rocks!
New iMACs Rock!

Having said that, I will get a Powerbook G4 when OS X comes out.

You know, I thought that the Key Lime iBook was bad, but this crap takes the cake!
As soon as Apple cleared the channel, they're going to fill it right back up again... What family would want a "flower power" iMac in their home?
Snow and Sage were cool and the sold! I don't expect any of the two "odd" iMacs to sell at all.
I'm waiting for the next Rev iBook... geez, I hope it's not purple with pink poka dots....

Thank god they didn't make any iBooks. They would probably have been pink polka-dotted.
Hello, Dell, I'm ready to buy. When Apple starts making "flower power" computers, I know its time to jump ship.

I guess we now know what Apple did with all those left over Snow parts.
The spotted version isn't SO bad. It would get boring quickly, though.

Actually, I'm ok with the new colors, for two reasons:
1) They're designed to appeal to women and kids. That actually may be smart, as no one is really catering to them.
2) You can still get Indigo or Graphite, thus dodging the 'chickMacs' at every pricepoint...
If it were the new colors ONLY, then yes, I'd be queasy...

You said it dude,
I think the target audience ic clearly women and girls
who by the way have anormous influence in family purchasing
decisions. You can be assured that iSteve did look at a lot
of studies and had some consulting groups do a lot of research.
Although I don't want to buy it (still waiting for my TiG4)
I think it is a POTENTIALLY smart business decision for Apple.

I think we can all blame MacWorld for coming up with a Key Lime Flower Power iBook in their January(?) issue.
I'm suprised we didn't their cow-spot design too ;-P
So, is anyone excited about the new video card or the new GeForce 3 Video Card announced for March? Not that IT would fit into an iMac, I'm sure.

Come on...
Stop being macho and recongnize that thse two new designs are just not for you.
That doesn't mean that they are for nobody. It's clear Apple is aiming at women and school girls with these. What's the matter with that? There is more women than men in this world and there is a bigger portion of this market that does not own a computer yet.
So I think its a good move.
Face it: Steve Jobs has always had more success with looks, fashion and fell (iMacs, iBooks) than with other aspects of the business.

I don't think these new iMacs will back up the supply line. Apple knows these computers are very different and won't hit a huge market so I doubt if they'll be making a lot of them. BTW I think the new schemes are pretty cool. No other computer company would dare to try something like this.

As mentioned earlier, if you don't like the, um, "different thinking" colors, go with Indigo or Graphite. I don't think the Blue Dalmation is TOO bad, but the flower power is, um... well, I don't think I can say those words in this forum. I probably buy one of these iMacs in the next month or two, and will go with a graphite (though I'd get Indigo if it was available for the SE).

I think that they are ugly, ugly, ugly!
I wouldn't be so disappointed if I felt that I personally just didn't like it, but I thought that maybe it had market appeal. But I don't -- I think that they're going to flop. Badly.
Two big problems:
1) Third-party manufacturers are going to be pissed -- now, they can't hope to sell peripherals with any kind of "matching" scheme. If they were going to get crazy, they should have based new designs on some of the colors that they had going. Now -- you get a printer with six different color lids to "match" -- and NONE of them do!!!
2) They got rid of snow, ruby, sage -- thereby cutting down the only choices that anyone I know would ever consider to two. Only one is appropriate for any office setting.
I think that the reason is obvious -- they want to push the "serious" consumer towards getting a cube, while the iMacs are now being geared towards the "kids."

TT Esquire,
Periphs will match if they are in the Ice/Snow color still. It'd be funny to see EPSON make a Flower Power & Blue Dalmatian lid for its 777i printer though!

With all this talk of schoolgirls, let's not forget that the new iMacs were launched in front of a JAPANESE audience. Have you seen what Japanese domestic consumer products look like? One word: cute. Japan loves cute, and these puppies will be huge.
And think back to how you felt when the original bondiMac was launched. Were you thrilled, or did you see another nail in Apple's coffin? The iMac was designed to bust paradigms. Now that it's become commonplace, it's probably time to shock people all over again.

I agree with TT Esq....
Let us not forget that these iMacs were announced at MacWorld Expo TOKYO. While Apple's sales are slowing down in the US, Asian sales are on the rise, rise, rise. Apple has sold a ton of iMacs in Japan, and with our economy taking a turn for the worse (sob), Apple is just trying to capture more market share in a country that has more to give. Just watch other contemporary designs coming from Japan, except for bland Toyotas, and Hondas, most of the stuff, like Pokemon, and especially the clothes go well with Flower Power and Dots. Apple is appealing to the only iMac market left. Us folks stateside can buy Indigo, which is arguably the best color anyway.
Can't you just see a Flower Power iMac riding on a Yellow Xterra's aluminum roof rack, with Pokemon suffed animals on the dash!
I dig it! Well not really, but the idea is growing on me!

Well while everyones whining about the "looks" (I agree both the Blue Dalmation and the Flower Power ones suck............why not army camoflauge? actually that would be kinda cool )
Here's the cool thing. I was looking at the specs on these just a few hours ago at work when I discoverred they even existed (it was slow so I admit I was goofing off )
BOTH the newest 500 and 600 MHz models have a L2 on chip cache. What this means is even the latest 500 MHz model (whatever color........who cares? although thank god for Graphite ) is actually faster than it's 500 MHz predecessor iMac DV SE predecessor.
So even a new 500 Mhz iMac has a 500 MHz backside cache
Now that's definitely sweet
Looks like Apple is really getting aggressive with Motorola in getting these chips developed for a change

How much LSD was Steve rumored to have taken way back when anyway? Joking. (Steve, no need to call your lawyer.)
I have no issue with doing something completely different, and in fact encourage it. However -- I think the error here is LIMITING choice. Getting rid of the snow, sage, and ruby iMacs while replacing them with novelty items cannot possibly help sales.
On a side note, one of the neat features on my PB 1400 was it's changeable cover. I could put my school crest, different colors, whatever, and it was actually kind of cool.
An iMac where the user could have perhaps customized the panels would have been awesome -- here, I just don't think they're going to appeal. Just look at the postings in this forum!

LOOK.....
Apple is a CRAZY company ok.....
#1) They pay homage to people people who changed the world
through unconventional ways of thinking, hench the "Think
Different AD campaign thats still running....
#2) We have a 'crazy' CEO...U know this guy did a lot ACID in the
60's ...give him a break!!! I think he wants change (again) how
computers should be perceived, hench the new designs....
#3) and finally MAC people are CRAZY...admit it...we're fanatics!!! We
were the original rebels of the computer industry...."Raise the
Black Flag!!!" !!!!
You have to give credit to Apple for taking a leap NO OTHER
COMPANY WOULD DARE DO!!!! I truely admire that sort of
thinking....of always wanting to be first...well...That's what I believe
and I'm stickin to it!!!

It will flop!! I know it!!
That was such a mistake.

Indigo, Ruby, Sage, and Snow looked *great!*
They were the best-looking computers that Apple (or anyone else thus far) has made. Those were the first of the colored iMacs that were actually able to get my attention and make me get the feeling that I wanted one! (Even though I already have a much more powerful G4... !)
The deep colors were very classy looking, and very cool looking. Ah, well, at least Indigo is still around.
The new ones, ugh! I thought that was a bad Photoshop hack when I first saw it. Let's hope that's all this is. Apple.com has been hacked! Damn hackers

All you people bitching and complaining --- SHUT UP!
"Oh, how horrible, I don't like it ... Why didn't they make something for ME...."
WHAT ARE YOUR BRILLIANT PLANS TO GROW APPLE'S MARKET SHARE?
Apple is a corporation facing a very difficult strategic situtation, for those who have the IQ to understand it.
Starting a fashion craze (remember the original iMAC?) is the only near term way Apple can increase its share. Maybe girls 15-29 will go crazy for it -- Apple NEEDS to take a risk like this. Where was the iMAC line going with just another color change and CR-RW -- NOWHERE.
Just chill out -- buy a blue or graphite iMAC, get a cube, a powermac, a studio display, a titanium powerbook.
Let's just see how this goes over with the intended demographic, instead of bitching, bitching, bitching about how it's not for you, and how you KNOW it's going to fail.
You don't know anything until it happens. Even the best marketing CANNOT create a commercial success.
