What's the best program for hiding IP addresses?
I've heard of netshade but it's what, $30 a year to maintain?
Are there any software programs that allow you to hide an IP address without a recurring annual fee?
What's the best program for mac?
So far, the programs I've found are:
1. hide my ip.com
2. netshade
Which one are effective, meaning they work and are relatively affordable?

Tor is exactly what you want, read the overview page to learn more about it. It is basically an anonymous proxy...

OK, thanks I downloaded it. I read through the overview page, but it's not quite clear how it works exactly.
I am running netshade and vidalia/tor side by side. How is tor different, or similar?
With netshade, I get a different ip address. Is that what tor does?
Also, I am on a "public proxy" on netshade. Is there a security concern at all with privacy, or does running it with tor simultaneously negate privacy concerns?
I found a third: hotspot shield. It looks to be free but you can't choose the ip address from a list, like netshade.
Which one is best?
1. hotspot shield (free)
2. netshade ($40 a year)
3. tor/vidalia: this doesn't seem to hide the ip-also free.

What if one were to use two proxies in combination, such as netshade plus tor? Does this increase levels of anonymity?

I'm sorry but what the hell are you doing that gives you the feeling you have to anonymize your anonymizer, but doesn't involve corp security giving you *exact* instructions on what precautions to take?
Just curiosity.

One thing about these proxies: they can be sooooo slow. I may not have use for them for this reason.

Anonymizers do nothing to hide information on one's own computer, though.
