My Brother-in-law wants to get his music to an Xbox to use with a home stereo. He can do it with CDs purchased from the store, but not with cds that he makes on the computer - anyone have any solutions?

I've seen reports that the Xbox won't copy from CD-R disks, but will copy from CD-RW. Tell him to try that and see if it works.

If his music is formatted in MP3, have him try AIFF instead, or vice versa.
