So I'm looking for a simple toaster oven that can double as a small oven, you know the type, something to put your fish sticks in, or warm up a slice of pizza.

Going to amazon, I'm inundated with choices, convection, infrared, combinations, large size, small size. Some going for 30 bucks, others well over 200.

I'll probably go with a black and decker but the reviews complain about how hot the exterior gets and with kids, I'm a little nervous having something that gets too hot. I don't feel like spending my night at the emergency room because they touched the hot outside.

Why in the world do we need to spend over 200 dollars on a small oven to toast bread and warm pizza with. [/rant]

I'm probably going to hit my local target and get something cheap - sheesh

I'd like to know why they don't have digital timers. I bought one with the traditional wind timer, and of course, it's unreliable whether it completes its countdown once it gets within a minute or two.

I came into this thread to recommend the panny oven above, but it looks like they don't carry it any more. Among other things, it makes really good toast, an ability for which many toaster ovens are ironically deficient. The heating element is akin to a Easy-Bake oven on steroids, which is nice because it heats up instantly. The only thing wrong with it is that it gets hotter in the back of the oven than the front, so you'll want to flip things 180º halfway through a long cook. This also means you can't get four equally toasted pieces of toast, but it can do two with flying colors.

If you can get your hands on one, take it.

Maflynn, I feel for you. Before I got married and was looking at toasters to add to my registry I had the same problem. I ended up getting a simple $25 black and decker with no features and I like it. My parents have a toaster that I seriously cannot figure out how to operate. It has 2 trays inside and more dials and buttons than a cockpit.

user tip: keep the toaster on the counter, not in the crib.
