A friend sent me this link today: YouTube - Tapping your cell phone

For those of you who have a lot more savvy about this kind of thing, does software actually have to be installed on your phone for you to be 'tapped' in this way? Does the iPhone offer any better security than any other smart phone? How serious a problem is this actually?

Wow, talk about extreme. But it sounds like the only way to be tapped is by letting someone manually install the app on your phone.

Consider too that the same thing can be done to computers with built-in camera and microphone. Or maybe even your toaster these days…
