Or does that standard free shipping get it there on time?

I live one mile from an Apple store. Should I just go there and pick one up....

1. Would they sell out?
2. Will I be waiting for hours in line while the employees try to sell me other things and lower my resistence to these things and ultimately empty my wallet on useless items such as a USB FAN and a WIRELESS ONE BUTTON MOUSE?

Or shold I order Online.

I live a few hours from the closest Apple Store (with no car!), and I've been wondering the same thing about shipping. ^_^;; Only reason I haven't pre-ordered yet.

You have a few resellers near you that should have Panther on the 24th as well.

There are other places to buy Apple products beyond Apple Stores. In fact, until recently, these places were the only way to buy Apple products unless you ordered direct from Apple.

Hm...yes...I guess I just didn't figure the stores near me (Best Buy, Comp USA) would actually get Panther on the 24th as well.

I'm still curious if the free shipping option would get it to me on that day though, if anyone has had experience with that in the past.

I just ordered my copy from the Apple store online, it said that the expected delivery would be on October 24, PM.
That would lead me to believe that it will be delivered in the late afternoon of the 24, which is great! Assuming the delivery company knows what it is doing.

I just called the Apple Store to place my order. They said it will ship (for free!) on the 21st and arrive on the 24th.

I'd actually seek out an Apple Specialist for the launch event, they should definitly have it on the 24th. My local reseller where I bought my Powerbook is having a launch party from 7 to 10pm. And they have had 10, 10.2 and will have 10.3 on the night of the event. 10.1, I am not sure they had an event, but they did have the update CDs handy.

I'm going to pick mine up at my local Mac Store here in KC. I placed myself on their list today.

They say they will absolutely have Panther on the 25th. They are also having a small event the evening of the 24th with a slim chance of it showing up at that time.

I usually order from Apple online but going to get it and enjoying the moment with a few others sounds like a little more fun.

Yes, with the people that ordered online like myself, we WILL get our copy on the 24th. They will ship it out early just so we can get it on that day.

But will that count with standard shipping or must you upgrade the shipping to get it on the 24th?

When you order online through the Apple Store or MacMall or Macconnection or Maczone etc you WILL get your copy on OCT. 24. If you ordered through the Apple Store online like me they will ship it for FREE a couple of days early to get it to you on the 24th.
