A premium smartphone touted by Samsung in its financial results may arrive with a metal casing, according to new leaked photographs. Believed to be called the Galaxy Alpha, the mobile device appears to use a metal band around the edge, and is a marked departure from the typical plastic bodies the company uses throughout its smartphone and tablet ranges.

The images leaked via Weibo depict a white version of the device, with aspects of the appearance and the chamfering on the banding appearing to take its cue from the iPhone. While it is unclear if it will have a removable back cover or will be an enclosed design from the pictures, the lack of insertion points for memory cards and SIM cards suggests it will still be removable.

Despite its premium appearance, Phone Arena claims it will have just a 720p-resolution Super AMOLED display instead of a 1080p version. Inside is believed to be an octa-core Exynos processor with 2GB of RAM and a Mali-T628 GPU. Storage capacity is said to be 32GB, with Android 4.4.4 onboard, while the front and rear cameras are said to use 2MP and 12MP sensors respectively.

A launch is touted to take place sometime in the fall, possibly around IFA in September.

Although Apple didn't invent chamfers, can't Samesung come up with anything original?
