I don't know of this has been posted before, but I just downloaded the new Script Editor 2.0 and was reading through the Finder's scripting dictionary only to find this:
Class label: (NOT AVAILABLE YET) A Finder label (name and color)
Properties:
name Unicode text -- the name associated with the label
index integer -- the index in the front-to-back ordering within its container
color RGB color -- the color associated with the label
Surely this suggests that labels will be with us soon!
Discuss.

this has been there for a while, and I am pretty excited, there will probably be choices from the Color Chooser thingy in Mac OS X, expanding the number of color choices

Care to explain what a label is? I am assuming this is something from OS 9 that never made it to X? As a recent switcher, I never had the opportunity to use 9. Thanks.

1. The mention of labels has been in AS since at least 10.0
2. Are you sure that if Apple implements labels, they will be exactly like the Mac OS 9 kind?

I already have labels and sounds! But the labels don't show up in Open/Save dialogue boxes. Other than that they are fantastic:
