Hey Sharks fans... remember the movie jaws? How it ended? Shark eats the boat captain then gets it's head blown to freakin' smithereens?

Just checking.

Sens just fired Jacques Martin. He's a good guy, but I think it was pretty obvious that he couldn't get them over the hump (read: the Leafs).

Well, whaddya know! Marcus Nilson scores his first playoff goal ever, in OT against the Red Wings.
And the Sharks are up 2 - 0 early against the Avs. Aebischer is demonstrating that he ain't Patrick Roy.

Update: Sharks lead 5 - 1 late in the 2nd period, Aebischer's been pulled. I gotta say I didn't expect this kind of game.

Well, I have just lost any respect I ever had for the Avalanche. Totally disgusting. When the game was out of reach, they committed a bunch of cheap-shot assaults on Sharks players.
No class at all.

You have to set the tempo for the next game. They have to prove to the Sharks that they will not roll over and die and that they have life left in them.

It happens in every single playoff series.

The tempo? So when the Sharks beat 'em 8-1 next game the Avs will be shankin' them with shivs made of old skate blades.

Sharks whipped the Avs in the first game in 2002 also, but the Avs didn't meltdown like this. Sure, it happens a lot, but the Avs have always had a lot more class.

funny you mention that.

because in 2002, avs beat the sharks 8-2 in the second game after getting drilled in the first one.

and itai195:

Two things. 1) this game was in SJ, the 2002 series the first game was in COL. when you're in someone else's house you need to make sure that the home team knows that you won't be going anywhere soon. 2) different coaching. 2002 was the bob hartley era but now its granato.

"Setting the tempo" does not mean taking a bunch of hit-from-behind, stick-work cheap shots.
It does not "happen in every single playoff series."
I played hockey as a kid, and I have been watching the NHL playoffs since the days when there were 6 teams in the entire league. I know what I'm talking about.

Yeah, and I'll bet Granato didn't much care for that behavior either. If they want to play a physical final two minutes, fine, but that doesn't mean they should start slashing Sharks players and hitting them from behind.

ESPN said the Avs lowered themselves today, and I agree.

Plus, I don't think it happens in every playoff series, but if it does then it should be stopped. And people wonder why the NHL has a bad reputation...

I caught the tail end of the Sharks/Avs game and thought Colorado looked really sloppy towards the end of the game. It could have been a lot worse than the final score.

That said, Go Flames!

Suuuure you do.

If you get blown out, in the playoffs, at the end of the game you resort to brawling. That's some kind of unwritten rule, man.

If you'd be watching "hockey since there were 6 teams" one would THINK that you'd know this by now. Back then, it WAS a rule.

As previously noted, there is a difference between physical play (including fighting) and the kind of cheap shots the Avs were taking.
You fight by dropping your gloves and saying "Let's go" or words to that effect. Not by punching or hacking at a guy whose back is turned.

I think he should have gotten suspended from the playoffs. Very dangerous, and that's EXACTLY how Moore got his neck broken. You think the Avs would've learned by now. F*cking pricks.

It's so easy to talk now. The Sharks were on top of the league when it came to cheap shots for the longest time. Remember a guy named Bryan Marchment? He was such a dirty player when he played for the Sharks but you haven't heard much about him now that he's with the Leafs. Leads me to believe that it was the system in San Jose.

I also remember the 2000 playoffs when the Blues and Sharks were playing in the first round and after the Blues had game 6 well in hand, the Sharks players were slashing at the back of many Blues player's knees hoping to injure them for game 7.

Oh and Moore got his neck broken because Bertuzzi was an idiot and didn't take vengence for Moore's concussion inducing hit on Naslund properly. I wish Bert would have fought Moore face to face and just beaten the **** out of Moore.

Marchment was known for that style of play before he got to San Jose. Anyway, if you're saying the Sharks used to be a dirty team -- I agree. They also used to take stupid penalties just like the Blues did in the first round. That's why I like this year's team a lot more.

Avs with class? Does anyone remember the `97 Avs?? Claude Lemieux boarding Draper and breaking his jaw? I couldn't wait to see the last regular season ESPN game, which happened to be the Avs against the Red Wings. Something like 180 penalty minutes in that one game alone! The Avs have no class, I was happy seeing Claude playing turtle. Cheap shot.

This years SJ team is fun to watch. So much speed. That is what the Blues were like in 2000 when we won the Presidents Trophy and got trapped out of the first round The really crappy part is that we ditched the speed idea and became a really slow, physical team. The Blues need a total facelift but unfortunately we have too much money committed to underachievers (Doug Weight, Pavol Demitra, and Keith Tkachuk) with a LARGE question mark between the pipes. Defensively we should be fine for a long time with Shawn Belle coming up and Backman developing into a Nik Lidstrom type player and of course Barrett Jackman and Chris Pronger are solid when they are healthy. Offensively, after the first line, we can't score goals.

Well it's probably too late with the upcoming CBA situation, but maybe they should do what the Sharks did. That was exactly the situation in SJ last year -- too many high priced veterans (mostly Nolan and Selanne) who were underachieving. They're still underachieving now, but at least they're not doing it here

Nice win, the Sharks looked pretty tired to me for most of the game, but I did miss most of the first period. I have to imagine this loss hurts for the Avs, they gave it their all for the most part.

while i like the av's...always been a big sakic fan...i also like to see some other teams advance for a change...sharks have a good squad and deserve more coverage than they get, even up here in hockey-mad canada. i think a tampa-san jose final would be awesome!

Sorry, was obviously thinking of the wrong movie...

What I MEANT to say was remember The Wizard of Oz?

That's the Avs this round. Granato understands line combinations like a Kansas school girl.
The first line plays like the Cowardly line: no courage.
The second line plays like the Tin Woodsman: no heart.
The third line plays like the scarecrow: no brain.
And the fourth line... well they're the little yapping dog.

And Teemu still sucks. At least in game 2, when he was a scratch, I didn't have to watch him suck.

But Denver still rocks as a sports town! We've got the Rockies... well... The Nuggets... um... the Broncos... uhhh... nevermind. They all suck too.

Bitter, table for one.

The patent has probably expired in the 50s.

Avs should play Sakic, Forsberg and Tanguay on the same line and hope like hell they can dominate. There really isn't much more that they can lose now.

Screw "balance," Avs need goals badly now. They have like 3 in this series

It didn't expire, it was a corporate merger. Now Damphouuse has legal rights to "bouncing a puck off a goalie's back" (U.S. Patent #24,983,884)
