The trailer just came out, and if OotP was any indication this one should be good.

I'm excited, but I'm not sure I like the kid playing young Riddle. I really liked the (older) kid who played him in the 2nd movie.

Yes, he obviously meant OotP, as his post was corrected, but OotF could have stood for "Order of the Foenix"

It looks very dark.
In the trailer I think I saw a flash of the older Tom Riddle as he flashed to Voldemort?
I was talking to someone about this trailer and how the book is really long. We wondered if they'd split the movie into two.
I just looked on IMDB and that is what it seems like they'll be doing with the final movie.
From imdb.com
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II (2011) (pre-production) .... Harry Potter
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I (2010) (pre-production) .... Harry Potter
November 2010 and May 2011. That's a long wait to find out how the movie ends

This was my favorite book of the series, and it is a big book to fit into one movie. I hope it isn't watered down too much. So much of the richness of the books have been lost in most of the movies, I think two movies for one book is a good idea.
It's also like printing money.

The book that the previous movie was based on is actually the longest of the seven. I think they're splitting the last movie just to squeeze a little more money out of the franchise.

while 7 wasn't the longest, it certainly had A LOT of material in it. i don't mind it being divided up.
hell, i thought 4 should have been made into two movies. they chopped out so many characters by making it fit into 2+ hours.

Yeah, after book 3, the rest of the books have been too long to fit properly into one movie without being watered down, and as you said Demonhood, 4 is probably the best example of this. They managed to do it a little better with book/movie 5, so hopefully they'll continue that trend.
I think 2 movies for book 7 is a good idea. Even if it is just to get more money, they'll be able to do so much more of the story. Hell, I think they should make 4 more movies (2 for each remaining book).

I don't know, the death of Fred Weasley had the most impact on me. I honestly didn't see it coming, whereas the others seemed to be almost unavoidable.
Can't wait to see how the filmmakers handle it.

Exactly. That's the book where they really can't get away with cutting a lot out of it.

Jim Broadbent as Professor Horace Slughorn. I'm not familiar with this actor.

Slughorn's supposed to be really fat. I expected someone like Michael McShane.

I wanted to see more of the Quidditch World Cup. They made this huge opening and everything, setting it the scene up... then cut. What the hell?

Maybe they considered the Triwizard Tournament to be more important.
Meh, I'd liked to have seen more of the World Cup as well.
Come to think of it, I'd have liked to see more of the light-hearted material from book 5 in its movie, as well. Then maybe more people would have liked it and not said it was so dark.
If the sixth movie is too dark then there's a chance my uncle won't see the last two.

And he's supposed to have a huge walrus mustache, too. I don't see that in the pictures of Slughorn either.

You f*cking kidding me? Quidditch is the worst part of the books. It's such a nonsensical sport and shows that while she is a great writer, she has no sense of sports, games and rules. The fact that she herself toned it down and then removed it from the story in the later books, shows that she realised that herself eventually.

Worst part of the books/movies. It serves no purpose, and the game itself sucks. The other players are useless. Would you watch England play Germany if the game lasted only until Rooney or Ballack scored, ignoring what anyone else did?

Actually, doesn't a quidditch team lose even though they got the snitch in one of the books?

Rather dumb of the seeker to snag the snitch while his team was down that many points. Should have waited a bit, eh?

So the stupidity/ego of one seeker validates validates the entire ruleset?
I'm sure it would be fun to watch, but lets face it - the rest of the team are just background extras to a two man capture the ball match.

Yes. Gryffindor lost to Hufflepuff (or was it Ravenclaw?) despite Ginny Weasley catching the Snitch. I think it was Half Blood Prince.

Did Ginny's teammates ask her why the hell she caught the Snitch while they were so far behind? If your basketball teammate turned to the ref and said 'my team forfeits', wouldn't you kick his ass for it?

I have a feeling that she would have eliminated the games a lot sooner if it hadn't been so popular with fans. She has admitted in interviews that it got harder to keep things fresh and new.

I can't wait for sooooo long. I get less and less interested when the timeline for releases gets to be too long. e.g. BSG on Sci Fi channel

Begin Nerd Mode:
Gryffindor was a team member short, Harry was knocked out by his own team mate and taken out of the game. There are no new substitutes during a game, you play with the people you have. So not only did they lose their Seeker, but their best goal scorer, Ginny, -- whom had any chance of catching the Snitch -- had to be substituted as their Seeker. So they lost their two best players, and with that, any hope of reclaiming lost points.
Since the game of Quidditch doesn't end until the Golden Snitch is caught (e.g. no forfeits), the best Gryffindor could do is to catch the Snitch early enough to minimize the amount of points they lost by. Ginny caught the Snitch and lessened their loss to only 30 points, instead of over 300.
The House Cup is awarded to the house with the most points. Quidditch awards points equal to the number of points a team won by, so for Gryffindor to have any chance of winning the House Cup, they had to catch the snitch, otherwise they'd end up in last place (which hadn't happened in over a century.)
Also, somehow I completely forgot that in the Quidditch World Cup between Ireland and Bulgaria, Ireland won even though Bulgaria caught the Snitch. Ireland just had a much better team than Bulgaria. Bulgaria relied on their Seeker too much and lost the World Cup because of it.

Ok, I'll be a Ginny Weasley apologist. I figure, the other seeker was on the verge of getting the snitch if she didn't. She must've faced the choice of either getting it herself or losing by a wider margin.
Yeah...THAT's the ticket.
