I really work alot on my PB and I was thinking about an LCD. Any recommendations? I think I have the ati 9700 with 128 vram how big could I go before expose jerkiness would come into play ?

I know that no one likes supporting "dull" around here, but they do have some excellent deals on LCDs now that you might want to check out.

edit: I think 128 vram will be enough to drive anything save the 30" cinema display!

The current (I think) issue of MacWorld compares some of the larger monitors. I got a Samsung 172X (based on this article), and really like it. You pay a bit of a premium for a DVI connection, but IMO the added sharpness is worth it.

20.1 inch Dell. Both regular aspect (1600 x 1200) and widescreen (1680 x 1050) on sale (today last day but they go on sale regularly) for $507. I use the regular aspect Dell with my AlBook, great screen (hesitated a long time before I popped for a Dell product but haven't regretted it for a second, no dead pixels, lots of reviews on the web lauding these monitors).

I have to agree with jbr- I picked up a Dell 2005FPW last week (it arrived on Monday), and it's gorgeous! And what a bargain too! (half the price of the Apple- which yeah, has a prettier case, but really, is it worth $500 more- no!).

I'd definitly recommend the 2005FPW.

i'm really thinking seriously about that widescreen dell, just one question though; will my new rev d 12" with fx5200 drive a full 1680x1050 resolution? or the other 4:3 for that matter?

I second the vote on the Samsung 172X. Its a good 12ms 17" screen with dvi and analog connectors.

That is if your after a 17".

Absolutely it will. My 12" Rev B is driving my 2005FPW fine in both clamshell mode and in spanning mode. (though I only ranning span mode for a few minutes to see if it would work, I've been in clamshell since).

The Dells seem to be good value LCDs.

But I cannot tell you how many times we've received comments from windows users on the 23" ACD we have attached to a windows workstation.

I think the Apple displays are excellent long-term value if you are really into the quality of the screen on your display. I have an older Apple 20" attached to my PB17, and it really puts my PB display to shame.
