Is the camera recognized by your system at all?

Have a look at System Profiler (Click on "About this mac" under the Apple menu to the top left, and then on "More Info"), there should be some information about your firewire setup. camera should be connected an active, of course.

If it does not show up somehow, check the manual for the camera on how to connect it via firewire and which mode it should be in etc.

When the cam appears under system profiler:
If iPhoto fails to see the cam, try to connect to the camera with the Image Capture application, maybe there your camera is recognized.

Hope this helps...

It's very possible that you can't import still photos via FireWire.

1) does the camera also have USB? If so, try using the USB instead.

2) I assume the camera stores stills on a flash memory card of some sort. Get a USB flash reader and use that to transfer the pix.

Most DV camcorders won't output their stills over Firewire. You've got to use a USB or serial cable.
