An app that you know a lot of keyboard short cuts and can get around like a glove?

For me, it's quark 4.x as much as i resent their lazyness for updates...then adobe illustrator

how about you?

Quark 3-5, I haven't used 6 yet, but I can't imagine it's much different in terms of keyboard shortcuts. I've probably been using Quark longer than anything else so I know virtually every shortcut for this app. and yet there's still ones I haven't gotten down yet. Little things like "Baseline shift" and so-on.

InDesign when it's in "Quark keyboard shortcut" mode.

Then it's a tie between Photoshop and Illustrator. Both app's have similar shortcuts, but because I started out using Quark it's a tad confusing whenever I have to work in other app's.

I use a lot of quark too:

Baseline shift is comm-opt-shift (- or =).
Just above comm-[opt]-shift ([ or ]) for tracking,
Or comm-[opt]-shift (; or ') for leading,
Or comm-[opt]-shift (, or .) for size.

Best Quark shortcut I know is comm-\ for indent here. Also click then com-opt-shift click to copy par style to target par.

Oh, and comm-(hyphen) for discretionery hyphen.

And I have the same problem switching from Adobe apps to QXP, it gets very confusing for teh figners.

Enjoy.

Photoshop. I've got actions written for sub-menu items I use all the time (image size, canvas size, select by color range, unsharp mask, convert to cmyk profile, etc.) with assigned f-key shortcuts, and I've got everything else I need just about memorized. I'm left-handed, although I learned to use a mouse with my right hand, so I've got the track ball on the right, and a wacom tablet on the left. Pretty speedy set-up.

That's something I have promised myself i'd do, but never have (esp image size: FFS!) I am left handed too, but use a mac right handed (guitar too). tend to use a lot of droplets more than actions, though. The tablet idea sounds good. How do you deal with comm, opt, shift, etc, just curious.

I feel at home in Photoshop...though i haven't created the actions for the most used submenu items. I should do it soon.

I pretty much just use the tablet for painting tools and detailed selections, like lasso. I use my right hand for shift (add to selection) option (subtract from selection) etc. when I'm using the tablet, and my left hand for same when I'm using the trackball with my right.

For me it has to be Indesign. I like Quark as well, but it seems to have faded from my memory since I 'switched' to ID...

I also feel more than happy in the Terminal... I love the 'directness' of it.

MS Word - Custom key commands for everything, plus auto correct for commonly used phrases (ie DHn for Deuteronomic Historian Seriously!)

1. Photoshop (I almost never have to pull down menus anymore. Like Chris, I have F-keys assigned for the most important sub-commands.)

2. Quark or InDesign (Depends on which of the two I'm using the most on a given day.)

3. Illustrator.

4. Final Cut Pro. (Although I usually forget a lot of the key commands between projects.)

I'd say Finder, but I still haven't gotten used to the New Window vs. New Folder command change.

Oh, and someone mentioned LaunchBar. That app rocks. And it's all about keyboard command. I launch all of the above apps via LaunchBar.

P.S. Yes, I do drink the tastey Adobe Kool-Aid.

While I definitely use Photoshop as much as anyone here, I've never gotten too comfortable with the key commands. Something about the program makes me want the use the mouse for everything.

That being said, Final Cut Pro is my key command b'yatch. Easily the pro program I use the most. Gotta love the keyboard stickies.

As far as key commands in general, I've never been able to get comfortable with them, especially in the Finder. I see all these people zooming around the finder, never touching the mouse, and I think, "Wait, doesn't the UI look like it does because it's supposed to be used with a mouse?" That isn't to say that key commands are bad, not at all. They've just never gelled with me.
