I am looking to get Crucial 1GB modules for my soon to arrive Dual 2.3. I know there is much success with the Cruvial modules but I wanted to know if anyone can verify something for me. The 1GB module that the Crucial site configs for the G5 2.3 is the following;

http://www.crucial.com/store/MPartsp...&WSPN=CT439938

At newegg.com there is a similar module with all the same specs, voltage, latency, and density at the following link;

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146545

Even when you go to the Crucial site and search for the part number from the newegg site you come up with a module with the identical specs and identical price to the crucial module that the crucial.com memory configurator comes out with.

The difference here is that from newegg, the module is about 40-45 bucks less and being that I'd like to get four, that adds up to a significant savings.

Any help would be appreciated

They are not necessarily the same

The specificaiton "PC3200 184 pin DDR DIMM " is not adequate to determine Mac compatibility. The chip organization and the Serial Presence Detect settings must be correct as well.

CT12864Z40B.16T is the PC Generic part, which Crucial does not guarantee is compatible with Macs.

CT442008 is the Crucial part number for the 2 Gb kit ( 2 of the CT439938) which is the only 1 Gb modules that Crucial guarantees compatible with the PowerMac G5

You'd be better off in my opinion with these at $119 each http://www.datamem.com/viewcat.asp_Q_C_E_1125

Thanks

I was also considering these http://www.geilusa.com/proddetail.asp?linenumber=45 as I got word directly from Geil that they will work in the latest PM G5 revisions

Get the Corsair 1GB sticks. I have 4 in my 2.0DP and haven't had a single issue with them.

Thanks, even though the Geil are marketed as "Apple Certified", I don't see any posts here or other forums about any experiences with them whereas the Corsair Valueselects have a lot of success and good feedback. That being the case I've gone with the Corsair. When they and the G5 arrive I will report back.

Thanks again,

Robert

I'm also interested in getting the same sticks for my would-be Powermac.Even quantity matches.
I hear latencies are 3-4-4-8-2T.Is this an impact on overall performance?Or latencies don't mean a thing
in terms of Powermac rigs?Or is it worth spending some more on Kingston Value modules with 3-3-3-8 latencies?
