Hi,

I am trying to find an external sound card for connecting a mixer, and other stuff to my power mac. Does any one know of anything, and is there any thing like sonar for mac?
Thanks a lot

budget? channel requirements?

there are solutions available between $30 or so and $50,000 or so, depending on quality, number of channels, etc.

Also, GarageBand is included with every single new Mac - it's not quite Sonar, but it's quite capable, and it's free with your Mac. (It's a scaled-down version of Logic, actually.)

m-audio makes a number of mac products, that's a good place to start looking.
AT&T iPhone 5S and 6; 13" MBP; MDD G4.

I'll second GarageBand as a "break in" application. It's a great way to get your feet wet... and upgrade to Logic down the road.

Are there any good, (FREE) easy to understand, GarageBand tutorials for a non-techie, non-mac-ie, non-musician who wants to use it to record/edit a spoken word podcast on a 1.8 GHz G-5?

(I just wanted you to have enough info to answer the question. lol)

THX!

Just use Quicktime Pro to do a podcast.

Is Powermac's audible performance adequate, or should i get an external m-audio soundcard in order to fully capitalize on a z-5500 speaker?

Since you'll be using the digital optical out (which is only stereo though AFAIK) to connect to the Z-5500, the PowerMac's analog audio output has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on your sound system.

The Z-5500 has a built in 5.1 decoder so when you play 5.1 surround DVD's you should get 5.1 sound.
