So, I won a brand new 2.53GHz MacBook Pro at my work holiday party! The only problem is it is way more of a computer than I need. I already own a Black MacBook but I would like to upgrade to the new aluminum 2.4GHz MacBook. Does anyone know if Apple will allow me to exchange it for a 2.4GHz MacBook without a receipt? I saw on Apple.com that the Pro retails for $2499.00. What I would like to do is return/exchange it and buy a MacBook $1599.00 + the 24" LED Cinema Display $899.00 + about another $500 in accessories for a total of $2998.00. Will Apple do this for me during the holiday return period? I don't know where the computer was bought but I would hope Apple would let me return it if I was going to buy a bunch of other products from the return. I never opened it so they could easily resale it to another customer.

WOW! Congrats. Without a receipt a return may be difficult, but if it's clearly NIB someone will take it off your hands. At worst you can sell it here in the marketplace forum or on eBay.

"Way more of a computer than I need"? Now there's something you don't hear every day!

I (and I'm sure many others) would be more than happy to take that free computer off your hands!

My daughter is heading to college this fall. That MBP would make for a very thoughtful and generous gift. She'll even name it after you!

If it was bought from an Apple retail store, the store can look up the receipt by the computer's serial number. If it was bought online and you have no receipt, and if it's a stock configuration (NO custom order ANYTHING), then a store should be willing to take it back for store credit.

I went to the Apple store today and they look up the receipt. They said it was bought at Best Buy so I went to best buy but it was purchased past their 14 day return policy on laptops so I am keeping it! Even though it is more than I really need, I love it and I am sure the FireWire will come in handy.

Enjoy,

I opted for the MBP over the MB and I've not looked back. I find that the only time you have too much computer then your needs is when you over-spent. Since this isn't your money, enjoy the much faster computer

Glad you decided to keep it. Even if you think it's overkill now, in 2 or 3 years you'll be glad.
