buy from the app store or microsoft. If going the ebay route, not even sure if they are still sold on CD... I would be very leery of download links.

The question was not where to get a copy that is 100% legit the most expensive, so obvious, the question was how to you know 100% is would be legit it you saved some money and bought from 3rd parties.

You can’t be sure it’s legit if buying from 3rd parties. Possibly, the only legit 3rd party source I can think of would be a university that offers student/teacher discounts.

thanks T interesting. Well one guy, nice website, and answers phone, cool, says it updates from Microsoft, 5 licences $29- love it! Instead of $129 from Amazon. But I'm thinking.. did some Chinese/ Russians, take a legit copy and perfect it somehow...
Could it be ok? At $29 maybe just worth testing out? I'm sure he'd give refund.

BTW anyone of you using Office?

I only use office because my work has it. I would make do with openoffice or other apps if my work didn't pay for it.

A good rule is if it's too good to be true, well, ya gotta know it's not legit. Some of these shady places have been known to have malware, viruses, etc.

I'm sure he'd give refund.

It’s only 100% legit if it costs a fraction of the original price.

5 licenses for $29 is without a doubt 150% legit.

And if anything goes wrong, I’m sure they’ll honor any warranty they give. I have never seen anyone in the internet lie about these things.

T, you don't use office? Curious if upgrade from Office 2011 which I have and is fine to 2016 is a good idea? Microsoft Just stopped supporting 2011.

I would be upset if in a few years, the Mac OS would not work with 2011.

LibreOffice - free, open source, regularly updated. A descendant of OpenOffice. Opens and saves MS Office files.

Try it. If it does everything you need, then you're done. If it doesn't, and you need the actual MS Office ... well, you've had that much longer to watch for deals.

T, interesting, someone just wrote me that Office 2011 (but could be wrong, let me know)....

"Office 2011 ... ok today, but since it's 32 bit, it will run only through macOS 10.14 ////

Have you heard this? I don't even pay attention what bits software are or what future computers demand.

I do remember that my 2003 for Mac Quicken stopped working for new Mac, and I had to upgrade, and it was difficult because the data would not transfer to the newer Quicken I moved to.

I'm totally happy with 2011, but don't want to get stuck on a future hardware/ OS upgrade...

BTW on the Microsoft website, it says "For one Mac", what does that mean?

Office 365 is a subscription service. It lets you use the latest version of Office online and the software on up to five Macs or PCs + five phones or tablets for the "Home" version (there is also a cheaper "Personal" version with 1 Mac/PC + 1 phone), and it also includes some online services. You pay monthly or yearly.

Office 2016 is the latest Mac version of the software. If you buy it, you get that version and can use it for as long as you like without paying again, but it is for a single device, and you don't get the online service or the free updates.

If someone is selling you "Office 365", or if they're selling you "Office for Mac" but pointing out that it is for 5 devices, that is a subscription, not selling you the software. You pay $29.95 or whatever, but you have to check for how long it is for. $29.95 sounds like Office 365 Personal for 6 months, maybe?

The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

I can make you a link that says it's free and provides free cupcakes for life, but that doesn't mean you will get cupcakes.

I don’t think kevs gets it.
These kind of threads make me think he’s a sock puppet account.

MS doesn’t sell lifetime subscriptions. That means that it is a scam. Most likely it is three or six months, and they will be gone by the time your subscription expires.

I would even be leery of Amazon, if it is a third party seller (ie, not amazon itself).

The ebay links, well... a plus is that it looks like the retail box and is shrinkwrapped... but that can be faked. The one with reviews, not all the reviews seem fake, so there's that.

If you want to risk it, give it a shot and let us know how it turns out!

Andi, yeah, going with Amazon or BH photo. Amazon is selling direct, called Amazon Digital

BTW do any of you use Quicken? I'm on Quicken Mac 2007, and they say the last pre subsciption is 2017, but I can't find a place that sells it.
