Hi all. I am new to MacNN. I want to ask the people here if they can relate their experiences as to how this forum compares to the AppleInsider forum? The reason I ask is that I'm looking for a more mature, professionally oriented board. I think perhaps this forum is a better match, because it has a dedicated developer section where the people seem to have friendly responses. Anybody else found AI to be immature and disrespectful, or do I just have bad luck?

this board is really good.

just remember the pol/war forum is where you're likely to find the nastiness.

True. But the problem was really more to do with the administrators than anything. They allowed name calling and targeted attacks anywhere on the board. So I figured that the lounge would be a good place to ask since, if any place is likely to have riff-raff, its the lounge... And because they didn't have a developers forum, it would be hard to ask people to compare since developers probably don't hang out there.

This board is pretty civil - esp outside the lounge. Steer clear of the politics lounge if you are sensitive to name calling.
I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

I'm on both, but I find less reason to post over at Appleinsider. My guess is that if you're looking for (mostly) mature, you can do OK here in fora excepting the Lounge and Pol/War/Namecalling.

However, jerks (mostly of the know-it-all variety) show their plumage in other threads, too.

Good luck.

Yeah, as has been said, outside the Lounge, things are generally pretty civil... apart from OSX General, sometimes.

Even then, it's the same people causing trouble... you'll learn to ignore them.

Welcome.

The dev section is cool, I get all my answers there and I try to help back as much as I can. The lounge is something else: combine 3 parts of locker room, 1 part of Bible school, 1 part of NRA and mix in a few brits, aussies, canucks and the odd swede/other or two and you got the boards. Sometimes friendly, sometimes nasty, sometimes touching and always entertaining.

Hope you enjoy yourself.
this lounge is a poor substitute to the bbq.

If you frequent the lounge you must learn how to use the ignore-function. For a good starter, check out my sig.

You'll find vicous bigots aplenty in the lounge

The rest of the boards are generally OK, but there's very little moderation that takes place in the lounge unless it's an all out flame fest.

I know. I keep it as a protest. Not being able to ban moderators suck. And the person in question is a rambling moron
