Eclipse runs noticably slower. I also just happen to be benchmarking some routines that I wrote in C++ against Java, so I have the quantifiable numbers... In 10.3.x, I could add 1 million BigDecimal floating point numbers in under 4 seconds... in 10.4 it takes more than 5 seconds. (for those curious, my C++ class for doing the same thing ran slightly faster than the fastest Java code, at about 3.6 seconds)...

They probably just said, "Let's make Java work in 10.4 but not spend much time, since Java 5 will be out shortly"

Our main app during a day is a large Java app and for us it runs a little better in Tiger than in Panther.

I have posted some quantitative measurements comparing java on 10.3 and 10.4. 10.4 seems to be faster. Please find my results here .

I have also added results for yellow dog linux on my powerbook. That allows a pretty nice comparison of MacOSX- java and linux java on the same machine. For those of you who are interested and don't frequently browse the developer center.

I just upgraded from Panther 10.3.9 to Tiger 10.4.1 and already went through the list of bugs everyone has posted on the forums.

I just noticed today that when an application stops working (not responding) and you try to force it to quit, it will end the application process but it will log you OFF? it brings me back to the login window and I have to re-login again.

I tried ending a working application and it ends the process just fine.

Anyone else have experinced this?

I've had java applets stop running correctly in Tiger. They work in Panther and with the JVM from IE. It's very annoying. I'll try this new release.
