That's what I meant. Sorry for not being clear enough. Just showing off how good it is when he clearly knows you can't afford that. I've stayed with super-rich folks and they have been very humble about their wealth. I like that.

Dude, if you want a better computer, get freaking job. If you already have a job, get another job, or quit your crack habit, or do whatever you need to do to get some cash.

What do you care if someone has something better than you or has more money than you. Its almost like everything we have in this world is set, and that rich people are rich because they are, and they shouldn't make you feel bad if you don't have money. Its not like that. You earn what you have. Maybe it doesn't work like that for rich kids who inherit money or whatever, but for the rest of us, thats the story.

I currently don't have much money. I didn't grow up rich, but I'll tell you right now that I will have plenty before I'm done. I see someone with a nice computer, and it just fuels the fire to get there. I don't think of them as jerks.

So far, you're the biggest jerk in this thread.

By the way, two button mice are confusing for a lot of people. Not just mac users. Its just that the mac users don't have to deal with the confusion when they're using their macs.

Just wondering what happens when the 17"er hitches home, leaves the blinds open & hooks up to his 50" Sony Plasma?

Actually, it is quite incorrect.

Sure, the phrase itself is fine, but its message isn't what you wanted to convey.

"I could care less" implies that you do indeed care.

If somebody said to me, "hey, want a free drink?", I could respond with "I could care less about a free drink", implying that I was interested.

Don't try to defend the use of the statement in that way... it's just wrong. I'm aware you probably know that it should be "I couldn't care less", and you slipped up, but that isn't the point at all.

So what exactly did this guy do? All you've said is the guy acted like an asshole and showed off. What did he say? What actions did he do? Why was he showing off?

Yes, I know.

That is EXACTLY what I said some while ago!

Nine posts ago, to be exact.

You could buy your Mac from Fry's Electronics. They take anything back for store credit, except for software. Sometimes they take back stuff that's not even theirs.

Computer went back. 3 MONTHS LATER I got a G4. ANOTHER MONTH after that I got the display.

REVERSE WORLD:

I had an Apple once for a couple months.
Then the Gateway G4 was released. I called Apple and said "GIMME MY MONEY, PREEZE." They told me no, not gonna happen, sorry. I ordered a Gateway G4 and Gateway Display that day.

A WEEK LATER I am fighting with Apple and my Gateway arrives WITH THE DISPLAY.

While I am a huge fan of mac, I am not a huge fan of how they do business. That's my opinion and I am not saying you should feel this way too.

An IT friend of mine and I were discussing new technology over a month ago and I merely mentioned I was getting the G5. W/o hesitation he says; "Why would you get a macintosh? MAC's SUCK!" This happens all the time among PC users so I knew it was coming. I said; "what you actually prefer the Windows OS's?" and he said in a righteous voice; "No, I much prefer lynux." and I said; "OVER UNIX?" the slence was deafening. My experience has been an overwhelming hatred for Macs and with blatent disregard for knowing the facts. Personally, I think the PC users start the flaming. Probably the only thing they started!

Yes, it's a better computer, but you don't have to be an asshole about it!!
Dude... someone like that spent $3000 on a new laptop. Let him do whatever he wants. He's not showing off or being an asshole... its HIS computer...

So he goes to an internet cafe... so what? that doesn't mean he's elitist. That just means that he is looking for a wireless hotspot... LOTS of people bring their laptops to internet cafes because they like the atmosphere and allows them to get out of the house while still having an internet connection still...

And not EVERYONE who goes to an internet cafe uses the shitty PCs there, you know...Why don't you start accusing all of the Dell laptop users or IBM Thinkpad users at that internet cafe of being arrogant, and elitist bastards?

From what you wrote, I see NOTHING wrong with someone using their computer outside of the house in a comfortable environment. Hell, its their own computer, let them do what they want.

I think you're being really reactionary here and spiteful. You have no grounding in criticizing normal people who use their computers...

What SHOULD that man with the 17" powerbook be doing then? keeping it in his bag though he lugged it around town? Where is the PROPER place for whipping it out then? Its a frickin laptop... its meant to be PORTABLE and used EVERYWHERE. Should Mac users be ASHAMED of showing their computers or the fact that they are Mac users?

Give me a break...

I actually would like to have quicktime on every PC at college because it is some-what of a standard. Its better to have install QT than to watch the windows media app open and give you some vague error about why it can't stream the video.

Windows Media (in my opinion) is complete and utter sh$t. Its a poor application that gets even worse on my Mac, I have never seen any video in the WMV format that was Great Quality or even good quality.
The only videos that are deserving of being formated into WMV are low-grade amature porno flicks.

On another note, I actually prefer a 2 button mouse. So much easier when I play SC, Urban Terror, or WarIII. I have nothing against PCs, I use them for what I need them for or what I can get out of them. Which is mostly word processing and surfing the internet.

I hear ya. I talked to a coworker a few weeks ago. He said "How can you like Macs?" I asked him if he knew much about them. He said "I used to work tech support. Fixing PCs was hard but with Macs there was no way to troubleshoot - you had to reinstall the OS to fix tiny little problems." I replied with "given that I worked Mac tech support for five years and hardly ever had to reinstall an OS, I would say that you didn't really know what you were doing.". Which responded with "yeah... well... I don't like the single menu bar".

I could have gone on, but in the interest of having to work with him, I elected not to pummel him with reasons why a single menu bar at the top of the screen is much more productive.

Was it wrong? Yes. Did we know what she meant anyway? Yes. Language is an impermanent thing. It might not be wrong in the future. The meaning is what's important. If you're clear, you've succeeded. Food for thought.
