Running 8.6 on a 7300. I've got the 10baseT plug in the back of the cpu.
Getting ready to have adsl service installed this week. Low and behold...can't find ethernet in the "config via" box in TCP/IP nor anywhere else on my hard drive.

I have downloaded G3 etherner(built in) 2.0.4 from apple and was going to try just dropping it into my extensions folder but I don't know if this is really what I need nor whether I'll just foul things up further.
Any ideas on what I might do do?

If the network extensions are not in the Extensions (Disabled) folder in your System Folder, you should probably do a clean re-install of OS 8.6.

The 2.0.4. Ethernet extension is for use with 8.1. 8.5 and 8.6 have a newer version.

If you end up reinstalling, a custom install of just the networking software should work. I doubt a clean or complete install is necessary.
