They had those at my high school, they are indeed great for the $$, they also get pretty bright.

Yep, it's definitely bright. I have the brightness on my 19" wide (on the left) set to 100%, and the large display is at 50%, and they're about the same. And it only cost me $200, so I'm quite happy with it!

This is my "blackbook" one of 2 identical ones. The other one is mobile and goes with me to work or out on the balcony. This one is in a wallunit in my bedroom.

Hi Craigb6.
It's sitting on a notebook cooler
StarTech.com - Notebook Cooler
I liked this one because I can set the strength of the fan speed. Its doing a good job of keeping the notebook from heating up too much.

Ghettochild,

What do you have your Powerbook resting on that gives it that angle. I see a little bit of it peeking out of hte front, but can't ID it. Also, what is the white brick just behind?

Which brick?

The stand, as you probably have already seen in the "comparative study,' is the iRac. It's cheap and it does the job just fine.

Your desktop is a drawing of your set up. That's amazing. What do you do for a living? Also what Sony monitor is that? It looks awesome!

Yes that is a graphic of my desk/wallunit. Its a bit out of date. At the time it was drawn I had a vaio laptop and mac mini, then when mac's went intel and I could put bootcamp in a mac I got rid of the windows laptop and mac mini. I teach computer privately mostly to seniors and mid-aged who are struggling with computers. I love it!!! The Monitor is the Sony SDM-P234 Its a 23". It was the last monitor that Sony made. I got 2 of them and the other is hooked up to the windows desktop in my office. My next buy is going to be a G5 to replace the windows desktop. I am waiting for Leopard to come out first

Congratulations. I love the blackbook. People complain that you can see fingerprints but that is minor I just wipe it down in 2 seconds. Black is much more sleek looking than the white. I just wish they would make a black wireless keyboard and mouse

Other companies do. I'll probably get a bluetooth mouse eventually. It isn't often I'm on an actual desk though.

Very cool. I just sold one of my blackbooks and have ordered the new core 2 duo blackbook like yours with 2 gigs of ram. I also ordered the 30gig video ipod which my nephew is getting (he's paying the difference of price from the free ipod offer) as I already have the 30gig ipod.

I know that is why I am surprised that apple hasn't offered them in black. you can get a wired mighty mouse in black so why not the bluetooth one!!!

I don't think you can get wired ones in black.
I miss the days of the G5 and XPS Pentium 4 running side by side as high-end machines.

The CRT is from my powermac. I haven't decided to sell it or use it as a dual monitor setup... Alernatively, I could sell it and buy an lcd. I think I might end up doing that, along with some noncrappy looking speakers.

I was wondering if anyone has iskin for their macbooks? I just ordered a black one for the blackbook that I carry around with me. And I also bought a black iskin for the apple bluetooth keyboard that is used for the blackbook that is in my cabinet attached to the monitor. Here is a link for the products

I know I was planning on waiting till October to get the new core 2 duo but my tech friend said that its very easy to put the new system in so I should go ahead and get them now as he doesn't see any new upgrades to the macbook before then. So that is what I did...

I use an iMate adapter, they still will run you about 30. A good way to get these things for cheep (all old Mac stuff) is to call your local newspaper and talk to the IT guys. At the one I work at, they have stacks of stuff they practically give away.

The keyboard works great - all the buttons work in OS X and XP Pro on my MacBook.
