I don't know why I'm asking, but I guess I'd just like to know what cool names you've got for your computers.

I really don't care if it's something like "MyMac" or "GeeThree", just put in your computer's names.

I'm sure all of us mac users have names FAR better than "C Drive", so let's see what you've got.

BTW, mine is "MyMac". And yes, I know it sounds pretty lame, but it's an iMac and it's mine.

iMac. It's his name, like I just shut iMac down, iMac just went to sleep. It really irritates some people.

I dont know why, but I call my blueberry 350 "Dino." I'm sure the name would make more sense if I had a grape iMac, but for some reason, the name seems appropriate. It just kinda fits.

I have named my imac Nimbus and my ibook Virga.
I enjoy clouds and weather. I also like the sounds of the words themselves.
Nimbus can mean a radiant light that appears usually in the form of a circle or halo about or over the head in the representation of a god, demigod, saint, or sacred person such as a king or an emperor. Virga is a light rain that evaporates before it hits the ground.

my DV/SE doesnt have a name yet, because i just havent had time to give him one. my quadra 650 is called burn daddy, because i only have it out to burn cds, as i have a scsi burner. my se/30 is called old man, for obvious reasons. i named my printer kauhikoa, after a hawaiian chief who never stopped working. he kept working till the day he died. how does that fit my printer? its a used color stylewriter pro. many many years old, and still going.

My iMac's hard drive is called Top Cat ... complete with a "kitty" icon. My friend's HD was called 'Big Dog'; He has dogs, I have cats. Other than that, the iMac is usually referred to as 'the mac'.

Let's see:

We've got the old clunker P550, which I love too much to disown:

Madeleine - internal
Mirabella - partition of external
Mae - second partition of external

Then the new grape iMac, which I absolutely adore:

Minerva - internal
Miranda - external

Tangerine iMac/266: Elroy...

I belive I read somewhere that 'Elroy' was an Apple internal development name for the iMac. Even of it's not; the name stuck.

Haven't named my Pismo, yet.

iMac 333 = "Darwin"
iMac DV = "Einstein"

My names tend to migrate across computers. The 333 used to be Einstein, and my old powerbook was Darwin (long before Darwin had anything to do with a MacOS). Then I dumped the PB and got a DV. That became Einstein and the 333 became Darwin.

I named my iBook Lyta (after that
red/orange haired telepath in Babylon 5. Plus she's hot. And my iBook is hot in its own way =) )
I also have a a little name for my Performa 6300CD. Usually it goes along the lines of PEICE OF **** . YOU SLOW FCKING PIECE OF **** . STUPID SLOW PEICE OF CRAP!. You frustrating slow peice of crud. I really hate thet Performa you see. You can't appreciate the amount of grief and impatience that thing caused. I wanted a PB G3 but my Mom said "2000 and under" So I got her to buy me an iBook Tang with 160 MB of RAM.

iMac DV SE = simply "Rechner" (german for counting machine). I'm a real poet!

Performa 630 = "Puss" (my girlfriend uses it to write emails and chose a pinkcoloured desktop).

Performa 6300 = Kraftwerk (selfexplainating)

I call my iMac DV SE - "Slim Shaddy." My Performa 6115 hasn't been cleaned in years so I call it "PigPen." And my Quadra 700, which sits near the window, has a yellow tint from receiving too much sunlight. So I call it "Old Yeller."

Slick shoes?! Are you crazy?!

This is in an old thread somewhere, but I might as well repost it to let new people see it:

Apple's code names are cooler than the real names it gives its computers. I undo Apple's damage by naming computers based on their code names.

I have named computers I have set up for myself and family members:

PowerBook 3400c (180 MHz): Hooper
another PowerBook 3400c (also 180 MHz): Kanga - this one almost got a PowerBook G3 logic board upgrade)
iMac (blueberry 333): Lifesavers
Power Macintosh G4 (Yikes! 400): Graphite

You're right, Graphite isn't the code name of any G4, but I don't like the name Yikes.

Yeah but what if the code name really isn't the real code name? Just some rumor someone started when it really had a different code name to begin with but Apple never corrected the rumor people because if they did then that would confirm the existance of something that doesn't exist and would defeat the purpose of keeping the code name and the product a secret.
What if it was really "Palmo" instead of "Pismo" or "Yippie!" instead of "Yikes" or even worse, what if the code names are real but got mixed up and the Pismo is really Nintendo's Dolphin project but some chip engineer (leak) at motorola mixed them up.

Regardless of where they came from, most code names for Apple's computers are still cooler than their shipping names.

My iMac's harddisk is called "Krita" which means "Chalk" or "Crayon" kind of, in Swedish. The icon is a box of crayons. You might have guessed it already, but I use my mac a lot for drawing and stuff... animating and creating DV even. Thank you Apple.

iMac DV = Blueberry Hill
iBook = Tangerine Dream

Airport Base Station = Moonbase Alpha
This one comes from "Space: 1999". I bought it in 1999, it's a station and it's spacey looking. So, I gave it the name of the moon station from that series. It made sense at the time.
