I recently bought this case, $45 at Staples (also can be had various places on the net) and I really love it. Its made by a computer and camera case company called Vanguard. I have a soft sided case as well, but Ive really come to love the way a hard case provides a great deal of protection for my TiBook in a package that looks almost as if it was designed with the TiBook in mind.

Anyway, this case is definitely up to the rigors of travel as well as everyday use. Anyone whos looking for a good, slim case for their TiBook, I highly recommend looking into Vanguard cases. Its not much more than twice as thick as the TiBook itself, which I really like, as I wanted something that wasnt bulky.

Inside theres an adjustable compartment for the TiBook, which is strapped in, and room for all of my install CDs, keylight, various cables, Media cards, etc.

Just curious, what are other people lugging your PowerBooks around in?

That's pretty great. I personally use a stylish grey laptop rucksack which is quite durable and safe. I also have a Ciak Roncato briefcase that I modified for the Ti-Book. It's the same case used by Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible and by Pierce Brosnan in Die Today Live Tomorrow. Something like that.

I use the Ti Monolith by Tom Bihn (www.tombihn.com). And it works very well. It was about 40 bucks, and it's a hard, padded case that is very good for slipping into my backpack at school, because it has no frills.

I got the Suite Spot bundle from WaterField Designs (www.sfbags.com). It includes a G4 SleeveCase, a small gear pouch, and a Large Cargo Bag. Everything is beautiful and exquisitely made. The customer service is also top notch. I recommend them highly.

Which did you get? You mean their commuter computer bags? I was looking at the them and they are pretty sweet. The messenger bags seem like they'd be good too - with their laptop sleeve of course.

To the original poster,

I see you have pens and other sharp edged objects in the top part of your case. That is an excellent way of ensuring a scratched paint job. I would suggest you put your PB in a sleeve before putting it inside that case if you plan to keep pens and other objects in the holders above.

I keep mine in a Tom Bihn Miter sleeve that then goes into a Kensington SaddleBag. No scratches so far. (Touch wood)

Thanks, yeah I've thought about this.

The top part of the case isn't quite as shallow as it may appear. Pens in the holders don't actually impact the TiBook at all. (Believe me, I've checked and made sure that pens can't possibly scrape against the TiBook).
The sharp points- are held under the edge of the CD Pocket. That entire edge of the CD pocket is pushed up and away from the TiBook by the perfect placement of the strap which holds the laptop in place. Beyond that, the points of the pens couldn't get past the strap either. All this on top of the fact that case closed, the pens are a full half-inch or so above the surface of the TiBook. Ditto the smaller pockets.

The loose end of the flex-light can't touch against the TiBook (and again I've carefully checked to be sure) because once again, that well-placed strap virtually assures that everything that touches it first (like the keylight) is kept pushed away from the surface of the TiBook and up toward the case top. The best it could manage past that strap is the lightest feather touch against the TiBook, and only then from some tremendous impact that would cause it to bend forward over the strap.

I can keep a maximum of 3 (slim type) CD jewel cases in the CD pocket. Also, there's room for a single layer of slim type CD jewel cases UNDER the TiBook itself, where I keep my main OS install CDs.

Again, the strap keeps the CD pocket from making anything but a feather touch against the TiBook on the side nearest the case edge. Even so it's soft material.

In short- it's a pretty well designed case!

Had it for several weeks and not a scratch of any sort on the PowerBook. (Even so, I'm watchful!)

Yep, the commuter computer bag with the sleeve. I already had one of their messenger bags for years and loved it. The difference between the two is that the commuter has padding on the backside and on the bottom plus a divider among some other nice little compartments. While the messenger has no padding at all, no divider, nor as many storage pockets, oh and the commuter has nice soft felt-like material on the inside, the messenger is just that waterproof Tyvar. So, for maximum protection I bought the commuter plus the sleeve, and have been very happy. Highly recommend.

I've also got a timbuk2 bag and I love it. They make a sleeve SPECIFICALLY for the tibook. I've got a messenger bag, though. BTW, they are running a 15% off special if you order through http://www.timbuk2.com/discount.html . It's an open discount, reusable through the end of July. Great bags. Also, if you want to mention me as a referer that would be great ([email protected]). Either way, give 'em a look. Cool bags and they're waterproof.

edit: I forgot to mention that the discount won't show up until the final page where you enter your CC info.

Sweet looking case at a sweet price!

Just one question ... can you fit an AC adapter in there? That would be a huge limitation for me, for others probably not.

Unfortunatly, no.

Yup, that's one drawback. Luckily the white power adaptor that came with my TiBook is small enough I just carry it in my pocket.

There is a thread in the Mac Achaia at Ars here with some good posts regarding different bags. Might be worth checking out if you're looking for a bag.

BTW Crash, having a strap wrapped around my Ti like that would scare the hell out of me - expecially with all the photos around message boards right now with peeling and bubbling paint. Aren't you worried about that strap eventually wearing down the finish? (think in 12 months or so)

Power adaptor in your pocket? I don't know man, the case looks cool I guess, but I don't think I'd use it if I had to carry things in my pockets to be able to use it...

Seriously, I think I'd be pushing the outer limits of paranoia to worry about the strap damaging my TiBook. First off, the strap rests mainly against only two points on the TiBook- the back hinge- which is a seperate white finish than the rest of the machine- and one small edge along the front. That front edge I really have not a worry in the world becoming damaged by having the strap on it, any more than I would worry having the TiBook housed in ANY material. It's of course not wrapped around the comp, merely over the top. There's an adjustable foam pad seperator (velcro connected) that you may notice which holds the TiBook in from the side. The machine absolutly doesn't budge in the case- therefore no sliding against the strap. It's also not THAT tight... it's just a nice sturdy velcro-attached strip that holds things in place and actually serves double duty as padding.

As for bubbling paint and such- I think the cases of this have to be factory defects more than normal wear and tear. No sign of any such blemish thus far, nor do I expect any.

Power adaptor in your pocket? I don't know man, the case looks cool I guess, but I don't think I'd use it if I had to carry things in my pockets to be able to use it...
Yup, granted, a slim case isn't for everyone. For me personally, it's perfect. Mainly I don't even carry a powersupply with me... when I take the TiBook out of my home or office (both have power-supplies that stay there and don't move) I'm usually using battery power. On a trip, I probably have other bags with me anyway, or my pocket will suffice for the Power Adaptor. Also- just a thing with me-- if I have a larger bag, I'll tend to stuff it to the gills with crap! I'm sort of forced to take along just what I need.

I am DEFINITELY going to second this, it is truly the best backpack I've ever owned (has an infinite ammount of space), let alone the BEST LAPTOP BAG. So comfortable, so much room, and so much protecton for the Ti. Get the STM bag, it's amazing.

I have several bags. Actually i'm a bit of a bag freak, with all the travelling I do yearly, I often need an extra bag to pack all the things I bought on the road, and so on.

-2 Zero Halliburton cases; 1 briefcase which suits the Ti perfectly and 1 Zeroroller whenever I need to bring my printer/scanner etc.

-1 Porter bag from Yoshida & co. Nice shiny bag, just big enough for the Ti. Weights nothing. perfect for taking it around town.

-1 SwissArmy Victorinox WebMaster Expandable Computer brief. This bag is fantastic. It's really sturdy, can be made bigger/smaller and has a padded sleeve for the Ti which can be taken out and used seperately.
Its $195 (lifetime warrenty) and can be ordered online.

This bag is by far the best one I ever bought and I use it almost all the time now.

I use the Drop MacDaddy which can be found here:

http://www.dropmfg.com

They do mostly snowboard gear, but this commuter bag is made to accomodate powerbooks. The bag comes with a removeable (and padded) laptop sleeve which fits my Lombard perfectly, not sure about a Ti though.

This one is very simple....

Head on over to "Oakley" and view their computer bag...here is a link:

Oakley Computer Bag

It's incredible and has a million pockets, the ballistic nylon is durable as heck and the padding is WONDERFUL! I have never seen another bag offer so much. The pockets and sleeves inside are perfect and fit the new white square adapter like a charm..plus I have other pockets for my pens, calculator, business cards, Digital Elph (with wall power battery charger), files/folders....etc. etc....they even thought of including "Software Pouches" where you can literally insert the Apple software bundles packages...fits like a glove!

Oakley done good in my honest opinion!

This really belongs in older macs and clones but anyway

I have this bag (urls, not images, they're 640*480)
which was cheap, is wel padded, has pockets for storing floppies, pcmcia net cards and the like, a nice area for papers, and SCSI cables at the back, and a front pocket with space for the ethernet cards dongle, my psu, power cable, mouse, and on occasion half my CD-rom drive (the other half is triangular and doesn't fit anywhere, what were apple thinking?)

But most of the time I don't use it, since to carry a laptop bag where I live is an open invitation to have yourself relieved of it quickly and forcefully.

So I generally carry it in this 1 2 bag, which is small enough to fit in a backpack and protects the laptop on busses, etc.

unfortunately the big bag is just large enough to fit my 5300, but nothing larger, I suspect I could fit an iBook into the smaller one, but not a TiBook, this, however is not a concern right now as my poor student budget will probably stretch to a 3400, or maybe a first-gen G3 or early iBook if I'm lucky, though I'd prefer to run X on it, so there's not much point...

I am looking for a leather type case for Ti667 DVI.
I was extatic when I saw the one from www.eleather.it and the one from www.nubaggage.com
Does anyone know of any other cases like the one from eleather?
eleather does not make cases anymore....
I really like the nubaggage one, put it is a bit to "square" in a way...

I actually called drop (their number is on the website) and asked which skate shops around my area carry the brand. The lady I talked to said that most shops can special order the bag straight from the distributor. Call around though, some shops will charge you to do a special order, some won't. Hope this helps.

I run bagreview.com and I am selling some of our test samples. I have some stuff on the site (www.bagreview.com). Just click on the sample sale banner. The deal though is that I have a Waterfield Design's RacerX for the Ti:G4. Mint condition for $95. That's $30 off retail. if your interested e-mail me at chris(REMOVE THIS)@bagreview.com.

I just wanted to report on the Tom Bihn ( http://www.tombihn.com/ ) Monolith bag. Mine just arrived today, and I've been taking a close look at it. It's a sleeve, with quite a bit of padding, especially along the bottom of the sleeve (it's a vertical orientation sleeve, so this would be either the left or right side of the TiBook). Overall it's a very nice sleeve, but it doesn't really seem to be "hard-sided" as some have suggested. It does have hard plastic inserts, but they do not really help against "squishing" of the 'Book that much. (by squishing I mean the as if you closed your TiBook, and pressed the top into the bottom. I'm trying to avoid this, since it contributes to the keyboard marks on the screen). The bottom of the sleeve helps some, since it has the plastic inserts on all sides, but the top has a zipper, and no plastic, so is much like other foam sleeves.

I'm not trying to badmouth the sleeve, it seems like a very nice product! I was really looking for something to prevent my 'Book from being squished while in a bag with books and other things, and this doesn't quite seem like it will do the trick.

Sharing is caring :-)

What I'm really looking for is something like the original briefcase in this post, but in a sleeve form factor! Probably wishful thinking on my part, anything with the necessary rigidity is probably going to be too big to be a sleeve.

After reading the posts, I was chuckling how serious we are for our Ti's wardrobe. Seems many of us have different bags-sleeves-cases for different needs or occasions. Well, I'm no exception. Last year there was a post here for the Vanguard from Sharper Image, but they sold out after I received one (thanks to the post) A place called Shoplet.com also had some. I also purchased the Timbuktu case sleeve for the Ti. Well constructed, beefy yet slim, almost bulletproof. Only criticism might be the sleeve handles; I had a prototype, so they may have been improved since then. (too thin, like fabric covered cord, for me anyway)

I use this sleeve daily in a Targus case from CompUSA. (back and forth to the office) I pull the sleeve out past the zippers (nylon) just in case they catch or scratch the G4 Ti.

When I go on listing appointments, the Vanguard is executive enough (without going Halliburton) that I just open the Ti from sleep and display contracts or MLS info and color presentations. This case really compliments the occasion and suits my needs. Sort of like polishing your shoes or washing your car for a big occasion.

I have one of the Madsonline Neoprene G4 saver cases. It is great, just the right size. It fits the powerbook perfectly, and this way I can put my Ti in my backback, or suitcase afterwards or just carry it in my hands. Very slim, but still very protective case. Not to mention how awsome the quality of the service at Madsonline was. They are great to deal with!

Here is a picture of their case:

That suitcase looks really nice. But it's pretty much unuseable for university. I bought a backpack some time ago for mine, the PB fits perfectly and the backpack is big enough to fit also everything else I need for everyday university work. Especially the thermos with coffee
I'll make some pictures as soon as I get my digicam back.

msykes:

MLS I mentioned in the post was referring to Multiple Listing Service used in most Real Estate boards.

Also want to mention that I had an original neoprene sleeve from Madsonline that I had to return after discovering that both side metal zippers came in contact with the Ti Book and that was totally unacceptable in light of how scratch prone they are anyway. Also the odor of the case was unbearable to me.

If you still insist on neoprene, CaseLogic has a similar version available on the web for around $19.

Crash, I'm loving your new metal case. Do you think that could fit a Pismo PowerBook?

Just checked Staples online and they didn't have it online. Maybe it was an in-store promotional deal or something.

Just checked eBags.com and they don't seem to carry them either.

Anyone else know where you can get bags online? Like a store that sells just bags and luggage besides eBags.com ?

I have always liked many of THESE bags, but have no idea how to get them in the states. Even after doing the coversion so of these seem relatively affordable. I think my ideal bag would be something with the hard polished stainless steel/aluminum exterior, but the casual ease of a messenger bag. Still has not been invented yet, but the Samsonite bags by Phillippe Starck:

come very, very close to my aesthetic ideal of the perfect Ti or general purpose bag.

Until then, I am using a lowly caselogic neoprene sleeve inside of a Manhattan Portage messenger bag.
