According to this post at MacRumors, Apple will not release a new iPhone model this year. Anyone here have more info? If this is true, that would majorly suck, 'cause I'm waiting for the G5 to finally get one.

On the other side of the fence, I suppose no iPhone 5 in 2011 would put even more emphasis on "The year of the iPad 2".

Well, the last G5 was produced on a 90 nm process. We are now at 32 nm. With some power saving redesigns and process shrinkage, who knows what such a PPC derivative could achieve?

The G5 came out almost a decade ago.

For example... Atom is too hot for phones currently, but then again, compare Atom in 2011 vs. Pentiums in 2002. Current Atoms are as fast as Pentium 4 chips of that era.

And, some are predicting that Atom will start to match ARM for power utilization this year.

Intel could match ARM for power this year - 4/12/2011 - Electronics Weekly

This would be perfect for a tablet, in 2011. I could see Atom in a phone a few years after that.
