...and it will only be available on CBS's dumb $5.99 per month streaming service.
Well, that and on BitTorrent, where everyone will just go, because who wants to pay $5.99 a month for CBS content?

Since the guy behind it was heavily involved in the rebooted movies, this will be set in the "new" Star Trek universe. Expect bad science, more action, and a lot of lens flare.
I'm a Star Trek fan. What the Abrams guys have given us isn't ST. More like Star Wars with a ship called "Enterprise".

I won't disagree with that, but I've found the TV show to be mostly garbage past TNG.
DS9 had its moments, but not very many. Voyager and Enterprise were reprehensible.

I've never seen Voyager or Enterprise. Honestly, it's sometimes difficult to even go back and watch TNG or DS9, as the acting, make-up, effects have not held up well over the years.

All shows after TNG has more bad episodes than good. I'm hoping that they learn from this and really get on the ball and get back to what made Star Trek good in the first place.
Also, Enterprise seasons 3 and 4 were pretty damn good. You have to get through season 1 though, and 2 was ok.

I liked DS9.
I watched most of Voyager, but it was not good.
I bowed out of Enterprise a few episodes in.

I'm exasperated with all these remakes and reboots.... come up with something new!

I usually agree with you... but Star Trek is a TV institution. It belongs on TV. We've gone too long.

I see your point. I stand corrected and apologize - maybe I'm just an old Star Trek purist

Well you know TV has moved on a whole lot since Star Trek last "graced" our screens in the execrable form of Enterprise (science included). I don't think they would get away with such a linear, straight show any more. It's going to have to move with the times in terms of having something to say, and as such it could be interesting.
As long as it is in no way interesting like Stargate Universe tried to be interesting. That would be awful And now I've remembered that Stargate: Universe was even a thing. bleuchhhh

A serialized Star Trek definitely has potential.

I'd prefer a 14-show, Netflix-style show to more movies.
I think a lot of what made Star Trek feel the way it did was lost in the two new movies, and even the I-VI, to some extent.
I'm not sure how to explain it, but the jump from smaller budgets to movie budgets felt like too stark of a difference, at times. Part of what made the shows so great was the exploration of all the characters, while the movies mostly seemed to center around Spock/Kirk/Picard.

Star Trek has lost its way, that's for sure. I'm hoping that they get back to their proper roots.
