Is it piracy ??? I don't think so. There must be a reason why it's released. They (Apple) know that many people take the risk and try it, good or bad. But that is my opinion, and I respect yours. Oh , btw, I won't try it. I'm just want to know what it's like.

Well, uhmm, I know we're not suppose to show people how to get illegal software, but I don't think any mods have ever said we couldn't talk about illegally obtained software. Not that I'm incouraging theft, but if people want to break their NDAs, I don't think there's anything any of us should lose any sleeo over.

Actually it is not illegal or unreleased. I don't really think you can 'pirate' a free upgrade. Before anyone answers, and I am hoping you won't, it is my opinion and I am sure there are others who see things differently.

I can see how you might say that if you are talking about a commercial piece of software, but not this.

As for the update, the bottom line is: don't bother. Wait for 10.1.1.

No. It is not "released". It was released for developers to test their products on before it's "released", but also attached to an NDA and statement that basically says if you're stupid enough to try this crap on a production machine, screw you. They (Apple) don't want people like you to try it then come in here crying how Apple destroyed your computer. It's happened before, and it'll happen again. It does eventually get really annoying. Unfortunately newbies don't know that.

Technically it can be pirated. Developers pay money to be in the developers program. Part of this money buys us this unreleased software. We have to pay to get this "free" software before it's ready. It's basically a paid beta for free software. And so, that's the portion that you're pirating.

Right. This is a useless thread. Please close it.

As for your example of pirating, that's your opinion, but it's weak and knee deep in semantics. So if he downloads a free upgrade today before it is released, that is pirating, but if it is available tomorrow on Apples servers, and the only thing that has changes is the passage of time, that's ok? How does that dilute the software development? Again I can see if it were a commercial release that was sold, but I can't see how this can adversely affect Apple or Apple developers.

For example, I can see that if people pirate OS X that will hurt as Apple sells it and makes revenue from it.

Still, this is a useless thread, close it, please.

SHEEEEEEEESH!

Before people start jumping down this guys throat, read his post! He wasn't encouraging warez, or asking to get a copy, he's just asking "what's coming next!"

If you know, and have an NDA, don't answer - if you don't know, dummy up! We're all Mac-addicts in these fora, looking for the "next great thing," and that includes OS updates. If we remove all rumor-material, these fora would die a quick death, right?

Lighten up!

It's a nice big bug fix, like every other x.x.1 release ever.

Poor i-mac, having to cope with those fu*kers to have your answers or just talk about what is interesting you...

Anyway, 10.1.1 should deliver many bugs fixe and some minor improvement (and a few new bugs as usual). Among those you shouls find:

-The world X extremely slow printing problem should be gone.
-Numerous bugs fixe when you use OS X in a appleshare network of machine running OS 8.6 or 9.
-Improvements for Webdav and compatibility with Windows 2000 IIS server.

Etc

It should be out soon.

It was made quite clear during the 10.1 pre-release era that discussion of illegal, pirated, unreleased software is most definitely ON-topic here.

Details on where to get the software, as well as help in installing or troubleshooting, are not allowed. But feature discussion is.

You've been around long enough to know this - did your ego need to have you jump on a newbie, or was it just for the hell of it?

The Mac OS X 10.1.1 Build 5M13 will only work if you have the "Security Update 10-19-01" installed. There was over three pages of bug fixes in the document I received, most of them were very specific. Therefore, I have just listed the main issues that received bug fixes, anything truly significant I put in parenthesis.

Apple Share Client / AFP Server Firewire/MassStorage/SCSI IO ATS CoreGraphics, CoreGraphicsRIP DiscRecording (Increased support for Sony CD-RWs) Finder (Increased support for Authoring) HIToolbox HTMLDisplay ImageCaptureApp (Added support for 7 new Canon Models) KotoeriUIServer (revised MailApp) PrintingPlugins, PrintingCore Quickdraw Quickdraw, ATS QuickTime, IOQTComponents URL Access webdavfs (Support for Win2000 IIS Server) xnu (Panic when running Apache and Mail Server, Panic while browsing AFP in Column view)

As for when this release of Mac OS X 10.1.1 will be passed down via Software Update? I would assume in the neighborhood of less than two weeks. The build is very solid and all features from 10.1 have been retained. This looks good to go. Nice to see that those Apple Engineers are hard at work. Get some sleep guys, you deserve it. Until next time....

P.S. this build does seem faster no joke!

I have not noticed any problems with Carbon apps at all.

I have not noticed any speed increase, nor any changes in stability. This is a bug fix and since the issues addressed didn't concern me, I have not noticed any differences on 10.1.1 systems.

From what was updated, I have no idea how there could be any speed increase.
