I'm looking for suggestions on a waterproof case for my car key. I would like a case that fits the key fairly snuggly, I don't want something oversized. The key is 3"x1.5"x0.5"

A soft case is preferable, but not required. Arm/leg-band is ideal, lanyard would work also. I don't want the round orange things you see tourists wearing at the beach. Any suggestions?

This is the closest thing I've found, it's a little bit too large though:

Zip-lock bag.

Also: who cares if keys get wet?

Ditto the ziplock bag. Double-bag it if it doesn't feel secure enough.
As for keys getting wet...If your keyfob happens to have a chip in it, along with a battery...you definitely want to keep it as dry as possible.

Exactly, it's a keyfob dealiebob. I'm not sure the ziplock bags will suffice, as this is for when I surf.

I have some thing like that for a cell phone, but frankly it's a PITA to get things in and out of. Also, keys are pokey and might rip it.

Maybe one of the square hard case things, and then perhaps adapt an arm band to it instead of a lanyard?

That type of case is too large, and bulky to be work on my arm or leg while surfing. My key looks like this:
Key apparently images don't work for me? Boo forum.

So, nothing really pokey about it.

Honestly, a zip-lock bag will probably suffice. People have used them to take their iPhones/iPads underwater. A freezer-grade bag should be plenty tough. Where are you planning on stashing it while surfing? As long as it's in a pocket or something I honestly wouldn't worry about it.

If your key is square, then maybe something like this would work:

According to the measurements on their site, the maximum size which will fit is 65x40x10mm, which is slightly too small Good suggestion though, that's definitely closest thing I've seen.

whatever happened to quick reply, this is atrocious

if you're that worried im sure you can find a tiny dry bag from outdoor research or sea to summit.

seal line also makes super small electronics soft cases that you could use.

Pelican makes cases in allllll sizes and is generally regarded as best in the biz.
http://pelican.com/

Personally, I'd go with the ziplock.

Is that factory installed? Or did you shave your locks or something? Otherwise, why not just bring your regular old key and leave the electronics in the glove compartment when there's a chance you may get wet?

Ziplock is not gonna happen, my $300 key fob is worth protecting properly.

It's the factory installed system, like most modern cars have.

Get a metal key cut for the doors and leave the fob in the car?

Just leave your car at home and drive the ziplock to the beach
