Alright, i'll admit it, I've only seen 3 maybe 4 of the Bond movies (The ones released since the mid 90s). They didn't really make much of an impression on me, in fact I have a hard time remembering the plots.
However I watched Skyfall, and really liked it... a lot. So, I was wondering which ones from the Bond catalog I aught to watch.
What's your top three?
Cheers

Connery was good when he was young. Moore was OK, but he also got old quickly. No, I haven't forgotten Lazenby. Brosnan's weren't bad except the tech just got stupid - invisible car FFS. I rate Daniel Craig actually. I've enjoyed all three of his immensely. Maybe its because they're not so gadget orientated.

The early Connery Bonds are outstanding and well worth watching. Not a fan of Moore, it all got a bit silly with him. Craig is closer in spirit to Connery than any of the others and my personal favourite.
Also, the books are worth reading. Quite a bit darker than the movies. Good people die.

I saw Moore first in Moonraker, so I like him even though he's camp. I did end up skewing towards the earlier, less camp ones.

For some reason I love the campy Moore Bonds, I find the modern movies far too action oriented, instead of espionage/gadget oriented.
In no particular order.
Moonraker
Octopussy
Goldeneye

Earlier Bonds:
Thunderball
Diamonds are Forever
Never say Never Again
All Connery, all (IMHO) more solid stories and less campy than most of the other Bond actors' movies, and of course, Connery.
Big props for Pierce Brosnan's Bond depiction, which was in many ways more solid and less fantastic than Lazenby-Dalton. I particularly liked The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day.
I have not seen Craig's Casino Royale, but I've seen his other two, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall. Craig's Bond is much more realistic, much more intense, and I think better developed as a person than most other actors' portrayals. I've gotta see his Casino Royale to be sure, but I think I'm going to go with this latest Bond incarnation as my favorite from a story perspective, and particularly from a "suspension of disbelief" perspective.
I like 'em all, even when Roger Moore is actually winking at the camera, but I'll only go out of my way to see some of them over again.

Best Sean Connery story evar:
Connery was in a movie with Lana Turner, and he was banging her (because, Sean Connery).
Turner was also dating a hoodlum, who stormed on the set with a gun and threatened to shoot everyone up.
Connery grabs the gun away, and then cold cocks the mother****er.

I always had a soft spot for The Man With The Golden Gun.
If you like Skyfall then you should like Casino Royale. I got bored with Quantum Of Solace and fell asleep before the end twice.
I haven't seen the Lazenby one in ages but I remember him being an awful actor in it.
Goldeneye is a bit silly here and there but worth a watch for the awesome tank chase. One of the best action set pieces in any movie ever IMO.

Skyfall I liked best of the Craig. (like you War, I kept falling asleep on the others). Judi Dench made an awesome M. Still not sure why someone smart enough to head up an agency wouldn't realize that using a flashlight when someone is hunting you is stupid. Overall, Craig's Bond seems less smart and more of a thug than earlier Bonds.
I'm having difficulty remembering names of most of rest except the Brosnan ones.

I didn't like Quantum of Solace either... a little boring. I did like Casino Royale.
I think the villain in Skyfall made it a more memorable movie for me.
@andi I wonder if the ascent makes Craig seem more 'thug' than the others

Or how somebody who has just looked into a burning building can look around into pitch blackness and instantly see said flashlight in the far, far distance. That moment was stupid in more ways than one.
Two more Connery stories:
In the seventies when Sean was at the height of his hotness, he was being interviewed by a young, female reporter who was not altogether immune to his charms.
Flirtatiously, she asks: "So Mr. Connery, what does a Scotsman wear underneath his kilt?"
Sean looks at her, pauses, then answers: "On a good day? Lipstick."
-----------------------------------------------------------
When I was in my twenties I had been chasing a girl for some time, a girl who incidentally was a huge Connery fan. To impress her, I managed to get a reservation at The Ivy.
For those of you who haven't lived in London, The Ivy is an incredibly posh restaurant that serves well prepared school dinners to the British entertainment industry. There isn't a single night when there's not a throng of photographers outside the door, waiting for the latest starlet to leave or to arrive. It's a London institution and the likes of me had no business being there - I had won that precious reservation at a contest.
Anyway, I extended the invitation for dinner to the object of my desire, she accepts (as I knew she would) and I think to myself that this might well be the night to seal the deal.
Except as we walk in and are shows to our table, who sits next to us? Sean-bloody-Connery with entourage.
I swear, my date went to the bathroom ten times during dinner, just so she could brush by him. And to add insult to injury, this was old, wrinkled Sean who was cockblocking me like a boss. Knowing when to count my losses I didn't order dessert and managed to catch up with some friends for a pint later that night instead.
A painful memory.

What Dalton and Lazenby had, unlike Connery, Moore, and Brosnan (I haven't seen Craig), was they tried to play Bond.
Connery and Moore quickly became their own thing, which was basically themselves, or at least an idealized version thereof. Brosnan just dusted-off the same character he built for Remington Steele.
That isn't a value judgement BTW, just an observation.

Stodgy traditional british food, but cooked well.
Probably: Dr No, Casino Royale, Skyfall or Goldfinger can't decide

Probably my favorite Moore Bond. Except for maybe "View to a Kill", which has a special place for being the first Bond movie for which I was old enough to watch in a movie theater when it was released, and goddammit Grace Jones and Christopher Walken. Hell yeah.
I'd probably take any Connery Bond over all of Moore's others.
I also really like the Lazenby one - great setting, great villain, and some actual character development for Bond.

Good point.
It's worth noting, though, that Sean Connery was cast precisely for that reason. He wasn't actually an "actor", but basically an uncouth thug who'd never worn a suit in his life.

I've always liked From Russia with Love, as my favorite Bond film. Young Connery ftw. And it's far more of a "spy" movie, than a gadget-fest (save for the silly periscope thing.)
I was never a Moore fan. I never thought he fit the part. He always felt too much like a dandy when the part really demands someone a bit grittier. I actually liked Lazenby's Bond. I would have liked to have seen him carry-on for a couple of more outings.

They're all a product of their own eras and of how the lead actor wanted to portray them. Out of the Connery ones, Goldfinger is probably the best example. All of them are good for different reasons good (Thunderball is the highest grossing of them all, adjusted for inflation) but Goldfinger is probably where they found their stride.
The Moore ones are goofy. I loved The Man with the Golden Gun... when I was eleven. Now, I'd probably pick For Your Eyes Only, but I honesty don't like any of them.
All of the others from the eighties are unwatchable for anything except "so bad it's good" movie night.
Of the Brosnan ones, I'd pick Goldeneye. All of the others are flawed somehow - especially the one with the pipeline, where the setup is great but then sold out for a cheap action ending.
If you haven't seen Casino Royale, do so. Great movie.

I can understand liking this style of movie over the more generic action adventures of Craig and Brosnan, but if one liked Skyfall, I wouldn't recommend Moonraker and Octopussy as more of the same. Those are probably the campiest of them all, and Skyfall is anything but, with all the references to the Connery movies at the end.

Probably the Moore one I've seen the least. I have odd memories of it.
The term which comes to mind is "grainy", but I'm wondering how much that was from it being in the early days of VHS where they'd telecine whatever shit copy of the movie they had lying around.

The only thing Bond and Steele have in common, is a tendency to wear tuxes and look excellent in them. Steele was kind of a comic dandy, many times his cowardice/cluelessness/charm was played for laughs. Laura Holt was the one who knew how to use a gun.
Brosnan's Bond was much more serious, gritty, and dangerous than Steele.

Well, I should have said the character Remington Steele is supposed to be. One of the things which made that show so awsome was how layered the Brosnan character was... or was supposed to be... you know what I mean.
The gender role reversal was also awsome.

Also, not just the role-reversal in itself, but the built-in social commentary she needed to engineer that reversal in the first place. Surprisingly pointed for network television. Even now.
Edit: and made even better in that as silly as the show was, it was one of the more plausible shows on television at the time. This made the commentary more valuable IMO.

At this point we've named almost all of them. No takers for the Dalton movies, You Only Live Twice got lost among the similar Connery movies (it's really quite good, but saying it's your favorite is like saying that Return of the Jedi is your favorite Star Wars) and I think one of the Brosnan movies is missing (they all run together for me). Suffice to say that they all have their fans.

Ooooh, way too hard to pick only three. Hmmm...
1. Live and Let Die
2. For Your Eyes Only, Golden Eye
3. Thunderball, Octopussy, or Moonraker
Out of the over 20 movies I tried to pick the best, but it's really hard to pick so few out of such a great bunch of movies.
Frankly, I didn't care for Skyfall, although the first 2 movies of Daniel Craig's were okay.

1) Goldfinger - forever a classic and the epitome of Bond to me.
2) Moonraker - first saw it when I was in love with space travel and will forver have a special place in my heart
3) Goldeneye - I was in middle school when this and the N64 game came out. Love them both.
Honorable Mention: Casino Royale: I was skeptical about how Daniel Craig was going to be as Bond. I grew up watching the classics with my dad and was a Sean Connery and Roger Moore fan... Craig blew me away and I like the new edginess and more "dark" themes that the newer Bond's have.

1. Casino Royale is IMO the best Bond movie ever. It has awesome action, great one-liners, incredibly hot women, possibly the most emotion we've ever seen from Bond, some shocking plot twists, and spectacular scenery.
2. Some combination of From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, and Skyfall.
Those are the best four movies in the franchise, with the (possibly large) caveat that I have actually never seen Dr. No - it's been on my list for a long time, but I just haven't managed it as of yet.
I've seen Skyfall twice (once in theatres) - and while it was definitely a good movie, I must say there were enough gaps in logic that I started to get a little annoyed the second time through, and it definitely dragged a little in spots.
Quantum of Solace was IMO a solid stinker of a movie, as were the Pierce Brosnan flicks. I generally hate camp, though, so take that with as many grains of salt as required.

Quantum of Solace was a victim of the writers strike. They had started shooting and had planned to finish the script while shooting. Suddenly no writers could work, and the production was ongoing. The only two people that are allowed to work on the script without being Writer's Guild members are the director and the lead actor, so the script had to be stitched together by them.
The Brosnan flicks: I liked Goldeneye, with a great opening, great chase scene, a plot that makes at least some sense and some quick banter. The next one was an attempt to put in some satire (that's supposed to be Murdoch as the enemy) and the geopolitics didn't work. The one with the pipeline was an attempt to make another On Her Majesty's Secret Service, but then they sold that out for more action at the end (and Denise Richards is absolutely terrible). The last was only a sequence of references to the older movies, with no real plot.

I liked them all. But Skyfall is probably the most removed from the list; so if that was your favorite you might not like any of them. They have a comic book sort of fantasy and cheesiness about them. If you've seen Austin Powers it's a good parody. In most, there's a kingpin who has an overly elaborate plan for world domination. Him and his assassins are eccentric people who kill in unique ways such as throwing a hat, or leaving to pet sharks. They never just shoot somebody the easy way. At one point Dr. No builds a moon base. Many of the characters such as Jaws and Dr. No are in multiple movies; some are kinda sequels to each other. Because of this you might want to watch the 1st 3 then decide if you want to watch the rest in order.

Dr. No never shows up again in any other movie.
You are thinking about Blofeld.
And the Bad Guy in Moonraker was Drax, who never shows up before, or after.

Blofeld is the guy in the wheelchair with the white cat. He is the leader of SPECTRE ever since the beginning (each of the Big Bad from the earlier movies, Goldfinger and Dr. No and the bunch, are his henchmen) and then shows up as the big bad himself in You Only Live Twice. Bond then spends the next several movies trying to kill him, apparently succeeding in Diamonds Are Forever. After that, Albert R Broccoli (the Bond producer) lost the rights to SPECTRE and Blofeld and couldn't use him in any further movies, so the Roger Moore movies drop the continuity and only have single-movie antagonists. Eventually Broccoli got tired of fans asking to have Blofeld back, and let him come back for a short final outing without actually being named in For Your Eyes Only. Bond drops him into a chimney, which appears to have finally ended his part in the franchise.

The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.
