Autocorrect on iOS 8 doesn't feel coherent like all the previous iterations. It has the distinct feeling of different algorithms competing with each other.

I'm sure it will get fixed at some point, but I see it getting worse before it gets better.

Example:

If it autocorrects something incorrectly into a proper name, and you delete it, it can't decide whether what you're about to type in its place should be capitalized.

It usually chooses capitalized, which is of course wrong.

Autocorrect is such a clusterf*ck. I really miss iOS7 in that regard. I get the weirdest autocorrect things all the time, and they don't make any sense at all. Words I have never used before. How the f*ck does iOS think that's what I wanted to type ?

iOS 7 was much more reliable for just typing away.

It's a small thing, but there are people I text where we do idiotic spellings, and it's really starting to destroy my dictionary.

All the ones previous to this could handle it. Junk words would get in, but the system still went with the correct word most of the time.

It's the space bar that's killing me. It must have gotten narrower because I accidentally keep hitting the mic button (I hate you!), the period, or the return button, depending on what kind of typing I'm doing.

I've not had any new issues with autocorrect. 99 times out of 100 it's fixing my typos perfectly. I do have issues with the caps, but thats not new. After using an iPhone for going on 8 years now, I still can't tell if caps is on or off until I start typing.

The cap thing seems to bug the shit out of some people. Doesn't bother me for whatever reason.

I think the space bar is indeed narrower, since the mic button catches my finger a lot too and I never had problems with that before. But I DID have problems hitting the Shift button when spacing after letters on that side of the keyboard. I'm getting better at it, lately - Apple is training my fingers.

It's hard for me to tell, since the 6 keyboard screwed up my muscle memory anyways.

Guys, I carry two devices. (Personal: Galaxy Note 4, and my Work phone: iPhone 6 Plus) While I agree that autocorrect has gotten worse than previous iterations, let me tell you that it's a Buck Rogers light year ahead of Android!

On my Galaxy Note 4, I type a word correctly and it often changes it to an INCORRECT spelled word. I fix it and it puts it back. It's bloody irritating to put it mildly.

So, while I agree, be happy you aren't on the other side of the fence in that regard.

iOS 8 gets very confused with apostrophes.

"That's" is often "corrected" to "that' so" and similar. Drives me crazy.

Texting about the mole on my dog...

Stop trying to turn that into "Nike". Mole is a word.

This is the kinda thing I mean:

I just typed "evidence to the contrary".

iOS autocorrect wanted (literally wanted, it was highlighted) to turn "the contrary" into "Thr contrary".

Yes. Capital "t".

Now, it's partially my fault. I will intentionally let misspellings through. I'm sure I typed "Thr whateves" at some point and let it though, but I've always done that, and it wasn't until iOS 8 this started happening.

It just corrected "cat" to "ca't".

Edit: I'm not making this up.

Does your phone/iPad run with an "odd" crowd? One that may have access to hallucinogenic drugs? Because it sounds like Autocorrect is trippin'.

Most of these thinks seem to be fixed as of 8.3, so I want to give them their due for that.

Edit: I'm leaving in that shitty autocorrect.

I have updated to 8.3. Still seeing it.

I don't usually type much on the ipad, but this week at a conference, while typing a ton of notes on technical stuff, I had to shut off the autosuggest because I kept having to delete its suggestions and retype the right thing several times. After about the 50th time, it might have learned that CSS was not cuss.

Since I use an external keyboard with my iPad (most of the time) I don't see a lot of autocorrecting going on. But on my phone? I have to proof read every text, and sometimes I feel that autocorrect "corrects" stuff it's not supposed to touch, like what I'm entering in search/url bars in browsers. I haven't sen a lot of this lately. I just got off the stick and actually upgraded both my phone and iPad to 8.3, but I think I'm fully conditioned to distrust autocorrect enough that it'll be a while before I don't carefully read anything I enter with a soft keyboard.

I can basically touch type with the phone, so I can correct as I go along.

If the word shapes are similar enough, I'll still miss things (e.g. "things" and "thinks").

I'm actually impressed with how good it's gotten at knowing from context whether I need "it's" or "its".

To my surprise, it even swung what I just typed.

I have to say, I'm kind of surprised how much trouble autocorrect on either platform has trouble with transposed letters. Doesn't seem consistent, either.

On my iPhone, 8.4 has most of the problems sorted.
