I'm experiencing problems with my G5 dual 2.0 after yesterday's update. Twice, my computer has been sleeping and all of a sudden the fan kicked into high gear, spinning faster and louder than ever. It wouldn't stop and I couldn't wake the machine from sleep. All I could do was hold down the power button and make it shut down.

I no longer trust any OS update from Apple. I always do a full backup from which to restore in case of problems.

Did you repair permissions and do all the other "tricks"?

Check macfixit.com - they have an article about that problem. I'm in the same situation as you are, supposedly resetting something on the motherboard will solve the issue, but I haven't tried it yet...
