Anyone know of software that will set up a CD-RW or DVD-RW disk so it acts the same way as a ZIP or floppy disk does in the finder? Similar to the way Easy CD creator does on the PC with DirectCD using packet writing. Toast doesn't do it, and I can't find any other software that can do this. I see a huge opportunity here.

Actually the Mac has nothing like that, not even the classic side of the OS. It was rumored to have been included with Jaguar but no one has mentioned such a thing quite yet.

Actually you are wrong...

When I inquired to Roxio about this they replied with:

"Direct CD on the Mac has been discontinued. The main reasons are.
1) It was not compatible with OS 9
2) The Direct CD extensions can cause a conflict with Toast's extensions.

It is possible that Direct CD for Macintosh may see the light of day again someday, but for now we do not have any specific plans to bring it back."

I have since asked them about plans for the OSX version of Toast and am waiting their reply.

I have also read that Adaptec is working on a DirectCD equivalent for OSX. We'll see.

Oops Well I haven't used less than 9 for burning so I really didn't know about that. But I knew it didn't exist for X yet. Sorry!

From MacNN's OS X main page today:
James Sentman has released CD Session Burner 1.0b1, which "lets you burn multiple "sessions" to a CDR until all the space is used up. While disk burning is built into Mac OS X, it burns the entire disk, even if you have only used a small portion of it. [It] uses Apples Disk Burner technology so any CD/DVD writer that Disk Burner supports is also supported by CD Session Burner." The beta expires June 4th.[980 KB](1 Comment)
