My 3 year old Time Capsule (2T) has begun to "cut out" on me every other day. This was happening every 2 or 3 months not so very long ago. I feel that it may be on its last legs. I don't want to be caught with a dead router at an in-opportune time so I was wondering if the "genius bar" would run diagnostics on an older TC like mine. Any ideas out there? Would you buy another one after only 3 years?

By cut out, do you mean Internet access and routing, or drive access?

The second generation Time Capsule is on the obsolete list, so I suspect you won't get much help in that regard.

These things suffered many heat related failures, mostly the PSU or drive.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

Harvey, please describe what you mean by "cut out." There are different things that could look like routing failures, but details are important. As Waragainstsleep notes, there have been quite a few reports of heat-related issues with both AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule units - my AirPort Extreme (the flat model) is up on a stand that lets it get plenty of airflow to keep it cool.

This subject belongs in the Networking forum, so I'm moving it there.

By cut out I mean drops my network. Went out and bought a new TC2GB and after 4 days of running flawlessly it did not connect to the internet on my phone or desktop. . . . . although the light stayed green. Very disturbing. Could my intial problem been something else and not my router?
Apple will take it back within 14 days . . . . if I don't need it.
