I know this topic has been talked to death.. but.. Has anyone tried the KByte or the Patriot brands from outpost? Then are found under Memory>Notebooks>PC-2700

Both are 1gb sticks.
The KByte is $149.99
The Patriot is $179.99

Outpost PC2700 Memory

Also, any updates on the eWiz brands? Thanks.

I ordered the 1GB Samsung from eWiz on 3/4/2005 and received it 3/9/2005. Just put it in last night...

Everything works great on my system (PB 12" 1.5 Superdrive), easy install. System seems zippy, or could just be my imagination.

I'm happy with the purchase from eWiz.

My $250 stick of generic stuff has been in my 15" Aluminum 1.25GHz Powerbook for a week now I think. Everything's running fine. NewEgg's $28 restocking fee sucks, but I'm just glad everything's said and done...

Garage81, I hope your cheap RAM performs better than my initial purchase. I won't trust cheap RAM again for a long time.

Just put the eWiz ram in... Seems to be working just fine. Mine showed up the next day. It could be due to my location..

Enjoy it, It is nice to have a laptop that is capable of running up to 2gigs of ram.

came in, ran the extended test, ran through perfectly.

1.5 is way zippier than 512. the difference is VERY noticeable.

I just received my 1GB KingMax SODIMM from Newegg.com too. Seems great so far. How many times do you need to run MemTest? I've already ran the Apple Hardware Test 3 times and MemTest once. I've read that people run these several times, but have heard different things. Any advice is appreciated.

Oh no! Ewiz.com doesn't have the Samsung 1GB SO-DIMM anymore .. they simply don't have it listed!

Does anyone know where else I can get this (besides Apple) ? I was going to buy it on Friday .

How strange. The rebate must have ended yesterday because I don't see it anymore. Also, when I ordered they were fully stocked. Now they say to call for availability.

Hi...

here is my experience with my memory upgrade.
I initially purchased 1 gig of RAM made by Kingmax from Newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...=BROWSE&depa=1). It simply did not work... i.e. I could install it and the computer would turn on but would freeze/crash every single time! I could not even test it.

Then... so I called Newegg. They accepted the return/refund and I sent it back.

I ordered then the Patriot memory from outpost.com (http://shop2.outpost.com/product/395...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG).

I had asked for overnight shipping...so, order completed at 10 pm and it arrived at my place this am at 10! Wow, I was impressed. I placed the chip in the computer and it works flawlessly!

Very happy and I can feel the difference particularly with iPhoto!

Cheers to all,
F.

Seems like everyone's going with different modules now. The Patriot one should work, as Anandtech tested a similar one from that manufacturer and found it to work just fine.

I ended up going with a 1GB stick from Mushkin for $200 to use with my Rev. B 12" PB. So far works fine, ran it through memtest without problems. Customer service was nice, and shipment was quick. No complaints here so far.

You can install one of these 1GB sticks along with the 512 that comes with the machine, right? The two modules don't need to be the same size?

This is a no-brainer! 1.5GB for $40 more than apple charges for 1GB!

Also, do we know if these are "low-power" modules? I seem to recall something about "stacked" modules, and you want to avoid these because they run hotter, and use more power. I saw it on another aftermarket RAM suppliers web site...

Thanks again,
Jeff

Ordered two Patriot 1GB (2GB Total) from Outpost.com Monday night and arrived in Canada this morning. Ran memtest and passed... Haven't really tested it out all that much since I just finished running memtest and it took like 3 and a half hours... First time I ever installed RAM or anything, and worked out good. Thought I would screw it up but its pretty easy to do with the PowerBook. FYI I am running a 1.25GHz AlBook 15''...

^^^

I think I will have to jump on that deal...

I was intending on just buying one stick, but if I can get 2 sticks for 2 gigs of ram for under 300...

Guys should I go for 1.25 gigs for 140 bucks, or 2 gigs of ram for 280 bucks? Im a power user but I dont use power programs (im talking 4 browers, limewire, music, cd burning, MS word, etc open at the same time).

Thanks

Ooh, which one to get? Hmm, I'll have to think about that one for a while...

Seriously, I picked up a gig of Micron/Crucial memory a week or two ago off eBay, it was about $180 shipped. Good stuff, and great service from the seller.

I ordered the kingston gig stick from outpost with next day shipping, which was only 1 day btw. I just installed it and it's working great! Just to test the limits (also, I have a gig stick and a 256 stick) I ran everything in my dock, which is 20 programs... 3 adobe, 3 macromedia, iphoto, ical, limewire, itunes, quicktime, etc.... I also have 4 qucktime Olde English clips running and music in the background. My computer is just now starting to slow down. This is such a great buy. 150 w/ next day shipping. I might actaully get another stick at this price.

Can I use any PC2700 RAM? I see a number of different options on the outpost site:
http://shop4.outpost.com/category/Ou...O-Dimm+PC2700/

What's the difference between DDR vs. SO-Dimm vs. 'Notebook Memory?'
