I was the first person to puchase a new 15" Powerbook from the Costa Mesa Apple store.
. The clerks were half asleep, and not too friendly, but I didn't care. They didn't even have them on the floor yet. The sales clerk went in back to get me one.

I bought a stock Superdrive model. I was hoping I could put my 12" Powerbook 512mb ram in it??? Anyone know?

Anyway, I posted pictures for anyone to see.
Let me know if you have any questions about it.

That is a good looking laptop. The 17 is too big, the 12 too small, but the 15 is juuuuuuuust right.

first reaction? does it get hot like the 12 inch?

How goes it compare to the 15 Ti?

That is amazing that they had them available.... soho says 24-48 hours...

The latch is much improved over my 12". It's much easier to open. It springs open and has a different design then the 12".

The battery also a better design as it isn't part of the side case like the 12", but rather a plate on the bottom of the Powerbook.

Besides the side vents it is vented all the way across, under the hinge.

The LCD is bright like the 17" iMacs. I like it.

I'm going to ask a probably stupid question: is RAM added via the bottom of the computer like the 12" Powerbook? (I didn't care for that feature of the iBook.)

L2 cache size : 512K

No heat at all!

No sound popping!

It is soooo quiet!

No sizzle.

Same rubber feet.

I can't compare the Ti as I never owned one.

The size seems just right as a desktop replacement and a portable.

Awesome bro...so glad to hear you decided to go for it! Nice job on the 12" PB sell, and best of luck w/ the Cube sell...it'll definitely leave your house quick on eBay. You've got an incredible machine, and just like "Karim" went down in history as having the first 17" PB (Jan. '03) PB on the boards, you'll go down as the first w/ the new 15" AlBook...congrats again!

You do realize that the expression "take a screen shot" is metaphorical -- you don't use your camera and take a picture of the display, you use command-shift-3 to take a shot of the whole screen, or command-shift-4 to select an area (add caps lock to shoot just one window).

You might want to blur or block the serial number in that screen shot of the Apple System Profiler.

WOW! Congrats! That is a beauty!

Just so you know, that Fujitsu HD is a sweet one. It has an 8MB cache, huge areal density and is SILENT! I was going to buy one for my FW Enclosure. I can't believe Apple is actually using a HD with 8/MB cache and not listing it as one of their features? That cache and areal density make up for the speed. Nice!

If I'm not badly mistaken, it's a Canon LiDE 30, and I own one as well...BEAUTIFUL scanner, matches the other Apple gear nicely, it's amazingly thin and lightweight, required NO power adapter (powered by the USB cable), and scans great all for around $50.

OT: I'm thinking of buying the LiDE 30 or the LiDE 20 (which is blue I think) myself, that's why I ask.

Is Mac OS X supported nicely by Canon with drivers and software?

Good thinkin'

Canon drivers are beautifull integrated w/ OS X, I've never had a minute's trouble w/ any Canon product, including my scanner, in OS X.

The lowest current price I could find was HERE for $59.

Congrats!!! That is a sweet looking machine. I wish I had an Apple Store near me. I placed my order for the same machine earlier this morning. I'm like a kid on Christmans Eve checking the order status to see if its been processed yet. I cant stand the anticipation. As you can see waiting is NOT my strong suit.

The 12" Powerbook uses 266 megahertz memory, where the 15" and 17" use 333. So, no, you can't use the 12" memory in the 15".

Actually it's a Canon LiDE 50, that I just got on Saturday. AssassyN, you are correct, the software works so great compared to the Epson I had before. I also bought a Cannon i850 which also works great. I said goodbye to Epson.

I don't think they learned anything, it's just the way it worked out. Apple needed to release the G5 the way they did to get education orders booked, not to mention to pump up an otherwise ho-hum quarter.

I am planning on getting an LiDE50 also but haven't found one. CompUSA only has the 30 model. The LiDE 50 comes with Photoshop Elements all for $99. BTW, I have the i950 and the prints are better than from my Nikon film camera...but that's for another forum.

Anyway, Congrats on your new 15. Your photo page is great and tempts me to try .Mac.

bootiful, to say the least. I love my 900mhz Pismo, though.

So the new 15" PowerBooks are not TiBooks? Are they Aluminum now? I kinda lost touch with the recent generation of codenames and specifications as far as cases go.
