Wow! That is interesting. I bet Adam will have a fix, fast. I used Gaim a few minutes ago to login just fine.

Thanks.

This really does stink!...Gosh knows the latest version of AIM is to buggy to use. Installed it and instantly started having issues....uninstalled it and everything has worked fine since.

I wonder if the new Apple/AOL relationship spawned this in a move to get iChat more accepted?

If you're online with Adium right now, DO NOT SIGN OFF!
(or you won't be able to get back on )

Looks like the TOC servers are down.

Adium (and proteus and fire) use the same protocol as AOL's 'AIM Express' Java client, so that's the best one to check when things aren't working.

<a href="http://aimexpress.oscar.aol.com/" target="_blank">http://aimexpress.oscar.aol.com/</a>

Since AIM express is down as well I'd say it's not intentional... no idea when things will be back up though.

Whatever we do...I wouldn't consider AIM's current software as a viable option...makes the system to buggy.

I guess we wait

I'm running Gaim under XFree86 ... it's an environment "similar" to classic that allows you to run XWindow apps. Check out <a href="http://www.xdarwin.org" target="_blank">http://www.xdarwin.org</a> and <a href="http://www.xfree86.org" target="_blank">http://www.xfree86.org</a> for more info.

to get Adium working again, simply choose "Preferences..." from the Adium menu, then change the server from java-aim-vip-m.blue.aol.com to:

aimexpress.oscar.aol.com

Click OK, then Quit Adium. Relaunch it, and you should be able to connect just fine. It is working for me right now.

Thankfully the Oscar connection worked, because the buddy list on my other comp, and other mac software for AIM is out of date.

****in' AOL. Just rooked my 22d 5h 46m uptime, thinking it was just somethin' buggy on my end. Guess I should've checked here first.

Okay, thanks...I got it working now as well...it may take a few times to try connecting; however, it eventually works.

So, here is the question....will this protocol work forever or will I eventually have to switch back to the java-aim one that was default? What is the diff. if anything?

Ok, I'm still getting nothing (thought a reboot/fsck might help)

Also: My Adium icon has reverted from the custom one I had before AND my preferences for everything except Connection and Interface are grayed out - anybody know what this means?

AOL is just running tests for the new iChat app and allowing mac.com users to sign in. ichat, while not as great as Adium, is built into the system, has a menu in the top bar, etc.

I know i'll be using it when 10.2 is released, but i hope that MSN's release of Messenger 3.0 with file transfer, groups, etc. will get AOL to at least release a client that is up to date with our Classic counterpart...or maybe they dont care cuz of ichat who knows!

Can we say QuickTime Broadcaster in a window for Video chat via AIM? And High-quality video chat at that, none of that bloated streams that are seen in yahoo.

Interesting, I just thought that my OSX install had gone to ****e. Software Update wouldn't update (I found out I had no disk space... oops)... and Adium wouldn't connect...

Now I know my OSX is just fine Glad to see Adium back up... although I haven't tested it since reading this post.
