Seeing a post about battery capacity on various powerbook models ( http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...hreadid=187251 ), I thought maybe we could campare battery capacity on our ibooks.
My ibook g4 12" reads as follows.

"IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Capacity"=4620,"Amperage"=1088,"Current"=2999," Voltage"=11395,"Flags"=4})

You can do this by typing ioreg -l | grep -i IOBatteryInf in the terminal.

mine says
"IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Capacity"=4693,"Amperage"=1200,"Current"=4672," Voltage"=12610,"Flags"=838860805})

Now does anyone know what all those numbers mean?

edit: oops, followed the link, explains it there.

"Capacity"=1558,"Amperage"=1200,"Current"=1558,"Vo ltage"=12407,"Flags"=838860805

(I should point out that my iBooks battery is over two years old now.

Hmm, it seems you need to resize your terminal window to get the full reading.

I'm getting about 10 minutes tops

"Voltage"=12334,"Flags"=838860807,"Amperage"=1067, "Capacity"=178,"Current"=164

How bad is that! Is there any hope?

hmmm..

I get this:
"IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Voltage"=12283,"Flags"=838860805,"Ampe$

whats up with that?

this is on a Battery that only holds an 18% charge.

Once its operating on Battery power only, XBattery Utility says:

Capacity: 3.628AH
Voltage: 11.420

and from there it plummets.

"IOBatteryInfo = ({"Voltage"=0,"Flags"=1,"Amperage"=-500,"Capacity"=10000,"Current"=0})

............would that mean I have a completely knackered battery (which is the case) or would it be more likely that the iBook isn't recognising the battery at all?

Seems stange that a battery can die absolutely, you'd think that there would be at least one volt or something.

Yes. Try to recalibrate the battery :
Use your iBook until it goes to sleep because the battery is empty. Then, reboot, and reset the PRAM (press command-option-P-R during startup). The capacity of the battery should increase once it has been fully charged and discharged again. You may want to try this a couple of times.

Strange how the 14 inches seem to have less battery capacity than the 12 inches. Both you and MRTrauffer seem to be about 600 points less. How Many solid hours you guys get with them anyways?

i can get about 5.5 hours. That's with the brightness turned down and only working on word documents. With the processor working hard, I can get about 3 hours.

I've never sat doing something consistent enough with a stop watch to get an exact count, but the 'time left' thing in the menu bar often says more than 5 hours on little use and 3.5 to 4 hours with heavy use (photoshop elements, mysql and web hosting, itunes playing etc.)

X-Charge is a sweet freeware that graphs your battery time, very worthwhile having. The menu bar meter is notoriously inaccurate and my Pre-Heimers prevents me from remembering to time my battery consumption. Does anybody know if it's compatible with Panther?

Hmm, now it's back up past its first posted capacity value of 1558! It reads: "Capacity"=1914,"Amperage"=992,"Current"=138,"Volt age"=11721,"Flags"=838860807

This is after that battery update...
