This joint has been a boon, a bog, a blast, and a boondoggle. I have met some of the best friends a guy could have here. Right here. I could list them, but it'd take entirely too long. We've friended, we've fought, we've learned from each other. Trolls, yah (particularly in this section of the forum). But I know, through this conduit, we've enriched each other's lives. I know for sure the friends I met here have enriched my life (jeez, I've even had quite a few from all over the world to my house, and would again in a heartbeat). And it all began with us helping each other with our Mac issues.
I still have a very close group of friends that Ive met here. Virtually, and face to face.

MacNN, thank you for that. I'm grateful.
I haven't been here in a bit, but I want to thank my friends, my moderators, the founders, and those who have... uh... inspired me in interesting ways (wouldn't be me if I didn't include a little snark. Right, ca$h?).

Offering this thread to share memories.

Going to miss you, MacNN.

I'm going to pull your head off because I don't like your head.

Max, the 2 meetups we had at your place were highlights of my life. Like a lot of folks, I've grown old/outgrown the place/moved on to other things, but I made some seriously great IRL life-long friends here.

Trying to go by usernames here, as not sure who-all wants their public names divulged:
Analogika
Andi Pandi
Voyageur (her daughter tutored my daughter through college & that whole family is THE BEST)
Timo
Axolotl
Max, you are my brother in King Crimson & Melville.
ChrisT
Demonhood
Montanan
Mastrap

The list goes on. So many of you I know by your real names & have forgotten your MacNN handles, & don't want to put them up here without consent, but you know who you are. There are a bunch.

The Lounge was my happy place for 4 or 5 years & it really bites the big one that it's getting shut down. So many comments, so much fun. I still check in now & again, though I've largely aged out of the place, but seriously. In the time I've spent here, I've owned about 30 Macs, fixed a bunch more for other folks as a sideline gig, owned a small business for 15 years, raised 2 kids & gone & gotten old. My youngest is 17 & into astronomy. My daughter is 24 & working for Lockheed Martin Space Systems in Colorado,(her division is the prime contractor for NASA's climate satellites & Orion) & is throwing things at the sky.

It's been a fun ride.

I'll try to poke my head in over the next few days, but this great embuggerance ensaddens me most hugely.

One of the places I've migrated to & have been very active is MetaFilter, in case anyone wants to keep up with me over there. It's a seriously great site.

I apologize if I missed something along the way!

Agree the maxelson meetups were awesome. Things are good. I've migrated away from this place (and the lifeboat, is that still around?) and hang on reddit mostly. My fiancee lives with me and life is good. Just got back from a cruise to the Caribbean. Just took a pretty sweet job offer recently - basically same job I've been doing, but better employer. Glad to hear you're doing well.

15 years ago this place was home to me on a cold Scottish evening.
I thought I'd log in one more time and say: "Thanks".

Good luck for the future.

Definitely sad news, and enough to get me to log in here for the first time since 2010. It's been a dozen years since I was a regular poster here, but I still feel a weird kinship to the place, and I really enjoyed the chance to meet a few NN regulars at MWSF over the years.

It was a fun ride, indeed.

Which reminds me, if there was some way to resurrect the Sig Wall, I would, but with most people removing their sigs, it would be tough to do.

Thanks for that. I hope by now you've finally given up the IT gig, and gone to caption-writing full time.

Through MacNN I met some pretty awesome people to game out with. From Halo 3 with Dakar, Bogues, Stogie, Chuckit, etc... all the way to custom Minecraft servers with Andi, Jawbone, Blaze and cyclopse.

Countless tech questions answered in clear terms, too many photoshoped pics to count, from the creation of the Pol/War lounge in the wake of 9/11 to the News Factor fiasco and MacNetv2. I have visited these forums daily for the better part of 20 years, with a few lapses here and there, just seems surreal it could all be wiped away in a matter of days.

I don't have the time or desire, but I wonder if arrangements can be made to turn over the archives of the forum to someone else.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

Should be a simple database dump, vBulliten probably uses MySQL(?)

Harder part might be getting the custom CSS to to transfer.

There were some funny ones in there, weren't there.
Diverted my powers towards screenwriting. We'll see how that goes.

I'll echo the sentiments here. Lots of you I've met IRL (or have known you online for so long, I may as well have).

I won't list everyone here as, like Chris I've forgotten some of your handle/name associations... but you know who you are.

14 years... yikes. Can't believe it's been that long.

Wow, really? THat's pretty awesome. I transferred to Emerald Dream. I was thinking about going back to WW because I can't stand the PvP servers anymore. I also have some saved screenshots from back when we were trying to raid MC and it didn't go so well. I won't be posting those
