A major study shows using marijuana isn't all moonbeams and rainbows:

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-h...-idUSKBN1AP0JS

LONDON (Reuters) - People who smoke marijuana have a three times greater risk of dying from hypertension, or high blood pressure, than those who have never used the drug, scientists said on Wednesday.

The risk grows with every year of use, they said.

The findings, from a study of some 1,200 people, could have implications in the United States among other countries. Several states have legalized marijuana and others are moving toward it. It is decriminalized in a number of other countries.

"Support for liberal marijuana use is partly due to claims that it is beneficial and possibly not harmful to health," said Barbara Yankey, who co-led the research at the school of public health at Georgia State University in the United States.

"It is important to establish whether any health benefits outweigh the potential health, social and economic risks. If marijuana use is implicated in cardiovascular diseases and deaths, then it rests on the health community and policy makers to protect the public." (cont.)
I await further tests and studies, but if this is true then people with hypertension should avoid pot entirely.

There is another condition that has arisen with the growing of new super potent strains of "medical marijuana."
My sister has fibromyalgia. You can get a medical marijuana card here in AZ if you you do,and she did. I'm not sure how long after she began smoking, she began getting nauseous and vomiting to the point she was losing weight. After almost two years of this, and numerous doctor and ER visits, she found out what it was, cannabinoid hyperemesis. She quit smoking her "medical marijauna" and it slowly went away.

If policy makers were interested in "protecting the public" then they can start by banning all tobacco, alcohol and opiod products.

Pretty sure history has proven that doesn't work, ever.

I'm sure smoking marijuana isn't great for you... but this study doesn't seem like it's standing on very sturdy scientific grounds.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

Surely the relaxing effects should reduce hypertension so it all evens out.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

Should the "super potent buds" sold by the "medical marijuana dispensaries" be considered GMO because of all the cross breeding and selective cultivation?

There are plenty of non-potent (lowTHC) high CBD strains (like Harlequin, for instance) that you can get at the medical dispensaries. A good dispensary should be able to steer you to a strain that meets your needs and avoid downsides like nausea.

That would make pretty much every fruit and veg on sale anywhere GMO.
