Watched the first 2 episodes last night. It seems like something confused as to what it is. Comedy, or drama? Sci fi, or parody thereof? Swooping majestic space scenes, lovingly zooming in on spacecraft... and cheesy sets. Diverse cast of humans/aliens, but these characters are weak, dialogue cheesy.... relationship drama so not needed... episode 2 with the security officer in charge and flubbing was cringeworthy.

And yet, I laughed several times.

Will it get better?

It definitely needs to find its feet a little. Moving nights after two episodes seems like a bad omen though.

Veers too close to TNG rip-off for me. Music, editing, the ‘OMG!’ moments right before commercials... with Family Guy jokes seemingly at random thrown in. Very, very odd show.

I watched the first episode and hated it... but many have said it gets better and you need too stick with it... meh. I don't know.

I have like 4 episodes on my TiVo and I can't bring myself to watch it.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

It's worth finding because it's such an oddity. You're not going to find it via 'conventional' means however.

It feels somewhat like Galaxy Quest - a compliment in my book. I'll keep watching.

I agree. I fell behind, and only caught up with "Majority Rule" last night. It felt like classic Trek.

Caught up to the present, with "Into the Fold". It wasn't as good as Majority Rule, but still OK. Felt a bit more like TOS than TNG.

I especially liked the latest episode. No spoilers though - go watch it blind.

btw, Fox has decided to air the season finale (episode #13) as part of the second season. This is almost certainly just tactical scheduling. Nothing's wrong with The Orville's ratings. Ep 13 would have aired on December 14, and Fox probably didn't want to use it up when people were getting ready for the holidays.

So there's only two episodes left this year. They're taking a break next week for Thanksgiving. Next ep is November 30, followed by December 7. Then a long dry spell until Fall 2018.

Episodes that are security-officer centric just seem blah to me. I don't know if it's the acting or the story...

I finally got around to watching the last two episodes last night. I was fairly impressed with the season. I just hope that Fox doesn't go cheap on it and drop the budget after renewing. That's the biggest risk I see here.

To resurrect...

Go and watch the 1st episode of the new (4th) Black Mirror season on Netflix.

OK?

Now tell me you wouldn't take the adventures of that crew under that captain (at the end) over ANY iteration of Star Trek.

Just out of curiosity, the style guide is obviously based on TNG, is the show more TNG or TOS?

zombie ressurect.

Just watched it. A curious oddity. I like what they are trying to do with it as a "dramedy" but the whole feel is just a knat too close to TNG, maybe if the lighting, music, effects. society (pick any one) was just a bit more different.

That said its made some story choices that TNG would have veered away from, and for the better so that's nice.

I asked my fave client and actual captain of the actual Enterprise D about it and he absolutely hates it. He wondered what McFarlane thought he was trying to do.

Season 2 begins December 30. Including the original Season 1 finale.

It was rumored for awhile that Patrick Stewart had a guest star cameo in S1, and the final ep is the only one we haven't seen. It's not clear if the rumor was ever confirmed, or just fan wishing.
