Hey all,

Well, I updated to OS X.1 looking forward to using the new image capture app to download pics from my Canon Powershot s110 (or IXUS V in Europe).

For some reason, the app doesn't load when I plug it on to a USB bus. The strange thing is that the system profiler sees it fine, it's just image capture that's being difficult.

If anyone has any trouble shooting suggestions, I would be eternally grateful.

Cheers

try opening the image capture application and changing the "hot-plug actions" option to "open image capture application", if it isn't already enabled. just might do the trick..

Thanks for the tip, and for responding.

I have tried what you suggested, but no such luck. It's a complete mystery to me. I tried plugging it in directly into the USB port on the macine, on my hub, and on the keyboard. It just refuses to see it.

I tried to bin the Image capture prefs, and that didn't solve it either.

Any other ideas???

I would suggest formatting the media.

I have G1 with an IBM 1GB Microdrive and it did not see it till I reformatted the drive (in the camera). After that it works like a charm.

Thanks BZ!

I'll give it a go when I get home tonight. I would never have thought of doing that to solve the problem.

Will report back.

Well - I formatted my compact flash card, but the machine still wont launch image capture when I plug in the camera...hmmm..

Perhaps I should install 9.2.1, but I worry that it my render some of my audio apps useless - I don't want to go through all that, again.

I am all out of ideas.

Try to check out the discussions on Apples own site - there's a description on a fix to be able to connect IXUS, G2 etc. Worked easily for me.

This might seem silly but. your connecting the Camera in the 'Off' mode right. Then after it's all connected your turning on to play?

just had to ask....

erm - no.

i checked the discussion on apples board, and it involved adding a <dict> entry into the info.plist file.

a bit beyond me, but i got it to work now.

I have the same problem, I have a Cannon Powershot G1 (supported ??), image capture will not launch, I tried all the fixes..reformat, connect without the power cord attached, editing the .plist all to no avail. I've even tried with 2 machines, a lombard and a slotloading iMac.

Anybody else still having this problem?

Found my problem. The Image Capture application must be in the root of the Applications folder to launch automatically. I had moved it into a subfolder and it wouldn't work.

Everything is fine now.

If your camera isn't on the "supported" list, someone at MacOSX.com suggested trying:

1. In the /System/Library/Image Capture/Devices/Type4Camera.app/Contents folder, there is a file called info.plist which contains all the USB IDs for the devices supported by this driver. Enabling support for the IXUS V is simply a matter of adding a new entry for the IXUS's ID, which can be found using the Apple System Profiler.

2. Open this plist file with Property List Editor (included on Apple's Developer Tools CD) or a text editor. You will likely need to use a utility such as Pseudo to open it with root access.

3. Scroll down to the bottom of the <dict> section. Add another <dict> entry with the following data (or whatever data you found in Apple System Profiler): product:0x3052 and vendor:0x04A9.

4. Save the file.

5. Log out and back in. Plug in your camera, put it in View mode and turn it on. Image Capture will open and you can download your images!

works for my ixus / good luck!

Well, tried everything, but I guess it only works for certain A-devices: I bought a very, very lowcost camera ($50,-)
and it has not such numbers in Apple System Profiler. It says Product ID: 514 ($202) and Vendor: VLSI Vision Ltd.

So I don't know what to do now

By the way, you only see the path you describe after installing the Developers cd, maybe a bit confusing for some people.

After reading lots of posts about this topic, I found out that one needs a "mass storage"-camera (not TWAIN), that even expensive camera's are not supported sometimes, and that the workaround for the IXUS is so often described, it almost is a shame Apple hasn't posted a patch yet in the form of a Applescript or something like that.

Hi, here's another frustrated owner of Ixus V. I bought Ixus V yesterday and it doesn't work. I followed the plist editing technique and still I couldn't make it work. When I opened Apple System Profiler, it even says that there's a Canon camera on its USB port, _but_ with the product id 0($0) and the vendor id 0.

I could think of only two possible reasons:

1. There's something wrong with my camera in the USB connection.
2. It happened only because I didn't upgrade to X.1 and am still using 10.0.3.

If the latter's the case, then the usual plist editing will do. But what I'm afraid is if it turned out to be former. So, is there anyone who has experienced similar problems?

Oh, by the way, when I booted into 9.2, ASP read off the profile correctly: I don't remember the exact product id but the vendor id was 0x4a9.

Does anyone know if Toshiba cameras,(or specifically the PDR-M4) work with Image Capture?

This seems the right place to ask. I'm looking into buying a 4.0 megapexils camera. Wich one would you guys say is the best and also one that works with image capture in 10.1.
Thanks!!!
