I'm upgrading a Performa 5260.
There are 2 RAM slots, and the max RAM in this machine is 64MB, which means I need 2 x 32MB SIMMs - 72pin, at 80ns or faster.

Can I use 32MB SIMMs from a PC?

Does it matter if it's EDO RAM?

I can't find an answer to these 2 questions it seems.

If it's the same type of RAM in the PC then you're fine. There's no special 'Mac RAM' or 'PC RAM'.

EDO is a type of RAM, so you need to find out if that's what you need. I checked Apple's site and it says nothing of the sort. Here's an explanation from Crucial that explains things. They say you need FPM and not EDO.

OK, thanks brad, that clears a few things up. The way some companies list RAM on their webpages, it makes it look like FPM and EDO are the same thing i.e "FPM/EDO"

I know what to steer clear of now.

I kinda thought they were the same thing too. I learned what they were by answering your post.

FPM/EDO is basically the same thing. EDO is just a faster FPM memory, EDO-RAM has a prefetch logic therefore memory speed is increased by ~10%

Is EDO backwards compatible with FPM? I assume FPM won't work when EDO is needed.
